I am truly enjoying this program. However, I think I am sabotaging my efforts with my eating habits. December was pretty much terrible, I got back on track for the first two weeks in Jan, and I just spent a four day weekend out of town and went nuts again.
Is anyone else having trouble? I would like to suggest a mini goal of eating clean for the next three weeks. We can try to hold each other accountable. We can post our progress here every few days or so. If we are not doing well, we can try to encourage each other. If we are sticking to our individual plans, whatever they may be, we can congratulate each other. Sound good? We don't have to post what we are eating, or how many calories, (unless you want to) just how we are doing overall. If there is an issue you want to bring up - like - I'm trying to keep carbs to 40% and I went crazy today!!! - that would be fine.
Doing this, along with posting our measurements in one of the other threads I just saw, might help us stick to our goals. Any one interested?
I'll start. I just did workout 1A in Stage 5 today. I just finished lunch and am on track for the day. Hopefully I can report that I staid on track in a day or so. Good luck. Looking Forward to hearing from you all.
I'm all in for the clean eating Laura42. I have been eating clean since this past Saturday. Until today, when I was in a hurry and grabbed a can of campbell's chicken noodle soup. It was the healthy request, but probably still bad for me?
Campbell's chicken doesn't sound so bad. Is it the sodium that's the problem? OK, better luck next time you grab something, but if it's that worst you do all day, not bad.
I am trying to get back on track after eating heavy dinners three nights in a row, which included multiple glasses of wine, rich desserts, topped off with coffee and baily's. This following poor food choices during the day as well!! UGH. That is my biggest probelm. I have still not figured out how to eat sensibly in social situations.
Well, it's behind me right? Today starts three weeks of clean eating. And no Campbell's soup either!! ;)
No more Campbell's soup! Those desserts you were talking about sound yummy Laura42! And no fast food. So, three weeks? And then what?

So, three weeks? And then what?
Well, I'm not sure. This is all about life style changes and creating eating habits we can live with right? So we're supposed to be eating the way we hope to eat for the rest of our lives. But I guess I don't eat in a healthy way consistently. I am good for a while, then I revert to old habits, then I straighten out again. And lately, the bad has been outweighing the good. So I wanted to set a minigoal of eating right for three weeks to see if I could start moving in the direction of making lasting changes. What are your ideas? Do you generally eat right on a regular basis?

Waht exactly is clean eating? I'm all about supporting eachother clean eating or not :-)
Others may have a different idea of clean eating, but to me, it means trying to stay away from processed foods and eat more of a whole foods diet. I am also trying to incorporate the suggestions from the book and eat the recommended amount of calories in a ratio of 30:30:40 (protein:fat:carbs). I haven't been doing so well on my own, so I was hoping that with the support of this group I could do better.
But everyone may have different goals for themselves. That's why I suggested we don't list what we ate or how many calories we consumed. Just state whether or not we are on track for our individual goals.
I think that is a good idea. And I agree that clean eating means no processed foods. I have been trying to eat right on a regular basis. But sometimes I mess up. Like last week, I was trying to up my calories, I have been eating too few with working out. So, I ate out a few times, and even allowed myself to have Mc Donalds breakfast one day. That was bad.
So, my goal is to eat clean, no junk or processed foods. But I, like you, have to be careful, or I will revert to the old habits as well. Especially if there are other people (family) that are eating bad. I think our group here will help us be more accountable.
What about drinks? Or artificial sweetners? Are we cutting those out as well?
I'm in! I had been eating pretty well.... until today! We had b-day pie at work for someone & I couldn't resist!
- Yesterday
- Breakfast - Fiber 1 pancakes (yummy by the way)
- lunch - home made leftover chicken parmesan, salad, nuked yam
- dinner - tilapia and a big bowl of broccoli
- snacks - almonds
- Today
- Breakfast - Plain oatmeal with raspberries
- BK tendergrill chicken salad (fast food - but healthy)
- stupid pie
Actually - I was bad during the holidays - all those yummy cookies hubby made, but had straightened out since the new year.
So - starting tonight again - clean eating for me!

Well I think people should decide individually how they want to address those food items. I think I am going to stay away from alcohol for the next three weeks since I overindulged the past few days. Realistically, wine must be included in my diet long term because I enjoy it so much. The key is moderation, but for now, I want to stay away from it. I don't like artificial sweetners so I they are not hard for me to avoid. But again, I don't want to impose my goals on anyone else. Overall, it looks like your goals are similar to mine, so I am looking forward to helping each other out. I would like to feel like I've burned a little fat before I move on to stage 6. Stage 6 focuses on building strength and not on buring fat. Unfortunately, over the weekend and during most of December, I didn't make much progress in that area.

I won't be doing the clean eating but I'm game for support.
Sounds great.
Artificial sweetners are not considered clean eating, so I am going to do my best to give up the sweet n low (sobs). I only have it in my unsweet tea once or twice a day. But it really is not good for me.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for something good to drink that taste good, is considered clean, and very low calorie?
You can sweeten your water with a quarter cup of fruit juice. Pick one that has no sugar added. That's what I do when I am sick of plain water. You can also sweeten your tea with a teaspoon of honey. There are lots of health benefits from honey and a teaspoon only has about 30 calories. I hope honey is considered clean.
I think it should be too. I mean, bees made it. It sounds natural anyway. I may have to start using honey, or the fruit juice. Or maybe just get used to straight tea. I don't like coffee. Thanks for the good ideas :)
Herb teas - they're great now when it's a little colder. There are a jillion different varieties and flavors.
I rotate 5 or 6 different kinds so I don't get bored, but especially love Good Earth Original (no caffeine) and chamomile. Chamomile evidently also helps regulate blood sugar as well.
I love the idea of clean eating and I've been gradually moving toward it for some time. I still like a glass of red wine and the occasional treat, but overall I'd say I'm closing in on 80 to 90% clean. Assuming that we can grandfather in Kashi Go Lean Crunch as clean - I know it comes out of a box so is processed but I'm not giving it up!
It seems that it's a matter of making the commitment and then continuing to work that direction - it takes a while sometimes to get out of the old groove and into a new one.
I second the motion of grandfathering in Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal.
And thanks for the suggestion of herb teas. I have always wanted to carry around a hot mug of something like everyone else. (They all drink coffee). I just never drank hot herb tea because I was always addicted to cold sweet tea. And when I gave up sweet tea, I went to unsweet with the sweet n low. Doesn't taste as good as sweet tea, but I still get my daily dose of caffeine.
It seems that it's a matter of making the commitment and then continuing to work that direction - it takes a while sometimes to get out of the old groove and into a new one.
That's a really good conclusion Megan.

I agree. We have to be reasonable if we are trying to develop habits that last a life time. I can't say I'll never eat anything again that comes out of a box. I just want to try to eat mostly whole foods.
I would love to be part of this! I feel like although I'm building a lot of strength, I haven't really seen changes in my body and I believe it's because of my diet. I have also stayed fairly healthy but, it's really hard for me since I don't have a way to heat things up at work, and so I always take the "healthiest" processed foods I can find. Anyway, I'm not going to be able to eat totally clean like some of you are but I completely admire you for it! I wish I were that good but, I would never be able to stick to it! I am going to try harder though to eat the best I can!
