Eating in the dining hall

Quote  |  Reply

So I am just starting this whole eating in the dining hall thing and when I was living on my own or at home I measured out everything I ate and what not, so now I am starting to think that I am over eating at meals Frown is anyone else struggling with this or has figured out this whole "dining hall" system?

I have that problem too. I've learned that I don't have to eat the whole meal, and if I eat just enough to be full, then that will tide me over for a while. I suggest if you like to eat snacks like I do, you can try carrots or other low-calorie munchies.

My main problem is that I dont like going to the dining halls because 1) I usually eat too much and I dont know exactly what's in the food (which I kept track of at home) and 2) It means I actually have to leave the comfort and safety of the dorm. I don't have access to the dining halls on the weekends, so I have to keep food in the dorm for the weekends and for snacks...well, when I get stressed about school stuff, those usually disappear really quickly. I lost about 15 pounds before I came to school because I finally reached a comfortable place in my life where I had wonderful friends, easy classes, a fantastic boyfriend, and a regular schedule. I felt great about myself and I was really looking forward to going to college, the time everyone says is the best time in a person's life. However, I am almost finished with my first semester at college and I have only a small group of friends, a bully of a roommate, and I not only have not had a good time, but I have gained almost all of the weight back and I am very depressed. My boyfriend is at another school and I dont get to see him often, nor do I get to see my aerobics instructor mother--I am afraid what they will think of me when they see me like this. It's mostly because of this less-than-ideal food situation.

Oh my goodness I feel the same way. I've gained about 4 lbs since September =(

My goal was to lose another 8lbs or so, putting me at around 125 lbs but instead I gained!

I usually don't finish the entire plate...but I still managed to gain weight. I don't like the food offered in the caf either, but it's the only choice which sucks because I'll eat some of it anyway.. and then when I have the chance to commute home and eat better food, I'll take that chance to eat some of that too which is most likely the reason to why I gained -.-

I'm moving out of residence on Sunday though =) into a one bedroom apartment nearby... Can't stand it on res. Good luck everyone.

I'm actually really lucky with the school I chose. We have the option of doing blocks (dining hall passes) or points (debit) for our meal plan and have a bunch of different places to use them at that have pretty healthy food. Burlington (where my school is) is one of the healthiest cities in the US and UVM has lots of healthier, tastier choices than other schools. How ever when I do go to dining halls, it makes me feel guilty if i don't get my moneys worth out of my food sometimes still which makes overeating happen.
