Hi everyone! This is my first post on the message board, but I?ve viewed it on several occasions. I have used the website a lot.
Well, when I was 13 I was diagnosed and treated for anorexia nervosa. I?ve had small setbacks here and there, but things really came to ahead recently and I shed 30 pounds. After hearing the concerns of my family and friends I decided to seek help, trusting that they were right, that something was wrong. Sometimes you can?t see these things yourself, particularly in my situation. So, anyway, I?ve been seeing a nutritionist and I?ve upped my calories from around 700 to 1200. I?m still exercising. I walk between 3 ? 5 miles per day. I?m sure that my metabolism has slowed and I?m concerned about gaining weight. Has anyone been through this or does anyone have any idea? I?m the maid of honor in my best friend?s wedding and I am concerned about not being able to fit into my gown for her wedding which is in 3 weeks. My gown has been altered to fit my body. Could this happen? My nutritionist and everyone else tells me that it won?t, but I?m still scared!

First off, what has made you think that your metabolism has slowed to any degree?
I wouldn't be concerned about gaininig weight until you physically see it happening...worrying about something that might happen is wasted energy.
I seriously doubt that within 3 weeks you'll gain an amount of weight that would cause you not to fit into your gown for your best friend's wedding, so no worries about that.
My best advice is to just to keep doing what you're doing and not to worry so much. Have fun at the wedding!

Well, for one. If you're walking that much then I don't think you're eating enough calories. Going from what you were eating to now is great though... so good job on that!
From what I know about eating disorders is that they screw up your metabolism... because your body is so used to not getting enough food, your metabolism slows down to conserve it's energy.

im have been diagnosed as anorexic also....i also have struggles on and off with bulimia and overeating/emotional eating......
as for metabolism, yes starvation can slow down your metabolism. I wouldnt worry though and I think 1200 is good and definitely an improvement health-wise. I say dont worry because a.) your exercising so the extra 400 calories will prob not be enough to gain inches and b.) your metabolism will stabolize as you continue eating healthy.
Im currently conflicted but support recovery from eating disorders. Im currently relapsing alot and going back and forth between anorexia and overeating.....im losing my mind. Eating Disorders suck. I hope this helps and that you stay on the healthy track. Im here if you need someone to talk to.
The person who question eating disorders effecting metabolism should check out... Anorexia - Ask the Dietitian If you start losing weight again, your metabolism will slow down as your body thinks a famine (like anorexia) is starting. ...www.dietitian.com/anorexia.html - 30k and
