EATING DISORDERS HEALTH RESOURCES & INFO THREAD
The moderators thought that we would start a place where we can have links to helpful discussions on the psychology of eating disorders, what they are, how to get help, and questions & strategies for recovery.
You and are going through the same things as one another and if you are willing to share the journey great progress can be made ... No one can do this for you. You have to do the work and the work is hard, but you can share the journey.
Knowledge is Power! Awareness is power!
Recognizing you have a problem and wanting to change - that is where to start.
Please share, feel free to link to it in other discussions here at Calorie Count! And please feel free to add information and links also!
But remember, none of this is intended as medical advice. Please reach out in the real world ~ there are friends & family who love you and medical professionals who have experience and training and the desire to help you.
All you have to do is ask... reach out & grab some help! Live life!

Any resources on binge eating disorder. I've had it for 9 years, and I'm trying to recover, but I'm only 17 and I'm kind of going it alone, since I don't really have a resource and can't really submit myself to intensive recuperation programs (I also technically don't fit the criteria since I don't have binges as frequently as twice a week). Any help for someone like me?
Have you checked our Calorie Count Plus resident expert Matthew Tiemeyer's Eating Disorders Resources page? There is a lot of information on BED there. In addition, Matthew's Eating Disorders blog on about.com has loads of info which could help.
Here is a website and a free helpline where anyone can get help:
Here is the reliable and trustworthy Mayo Clinic's page on BED. It has a section on self-care and coping which really might help ... check it out:
Also, the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) has a help line that you can call Monday-Friday during business hours. A phone counselor could offer you further support and suggest local resources which will fit into your budget, time and recovery process: 800-931-2237 (www.neda.org).
Thnks so much for your reply......I am hopeful and happy to find support!!!
My family thinks I might have an ED but I hardly agree. I saw my GP not too long ago and he said that I was too large to have anorexia/Bulimia nervosa. But the more I learn about these things, I think I might have one of them.
I'm 5'5" and 137 lbs (Hardly Anorexic/Bulemic material, I know), but my mind can't stop thinking about food. I HAVE to eat my food (if I do have to eat it) in a sopecific way (I.E: Colour coding my salad, then rearranging them piece by peice, and depending on what's in it, i eat only three bites of each section starting from the smallest/litest section first). I go through about 5 or six Extra-strength laxatives a day, take water pills, and when I do crash and binge (eating over 1,200 calories in a day), I end up feeling just horribleand try to counteract what I had done by laxatives, excercise and sometimes, though rarely now, using Ipecac.
But still my doctor says I do not have an eating disorder, that I am too heavy to classify to get help. It's times like these that I DO have some moment of clarity and realise that I MAY be sick. Though I really do not have room - or the degree- to say so.
I just need to know i'm not going completely insane. Again, I am not at an unhealthy weight, but I think my obsession with food can't be all that healthy
