Eating when drunk

Quote  |  Reply

I'm managing to stick to 3 meals a day mostly (I'm following this as recovery for my ED as snacking triggers binging and purging, its working really well and I've gone the longest without a proper out of control binge and purge, so please don't tell me to eat 6 meals a day or snack or whatever), but last night I had a small party and well when I was preparing the snacks I just started nibbling, then once I was drunk I was just like mmmm FOOD.

And now I feel I need to eat the left overs for breakfast as I try not to eat unhealthy :S

Has anyone got any tips for not stuffing themselves when they're drunk? I don't want to give up drinking - I know its a lot of calories but I only do it once every few weeks, I'm a teenager, I'm willing to lose a spot of weight slowly which I'm doing ectt, getting drunk is 1 of my weekend hobbies haah.

haha im 18 and i drink alot! so i wont tell u to stop,i always snake when im drunk 2! what i normally do is tell my friends to stop me if they see me snaking i usually go ofr the chips so theres always people around,i definitely wouldn't stop if i didn have help!if u dont want 2 involve friends i guess all u can do is either dont serve food, serve somthing you dont like or if your in someone elses house and they have food try to avoid the kitchen or area where the food is..i know impossible..its a tough 1 i have 2 say!

What i have noticed when Im drinking It doesnt seem to matter to me WHAT it is so long as Im munching. So I suggest you chop up some carrot sticks, celery sticks, sliced peppers, apple chunks etc. put them with some spicy salsa and keep those snacks within reach and chips for everyone else, hope it helps! It usually satisfies my mindless need to munch away and fills you up faster due to water content and fibre of the veggies!!

see, when i have a few drinks.. i usually know WHAT i want and how i want it. the most important thing is to make sure you jump urself right back on track the next morning.

as for at the time? i switch to water(or club) as soon as i feel the urge and maybe grab for some nuts. pay attention to ur body then after the first few bites try and figure out how your body feels and recognize that you are not GENUINELY hungry. Ive noticed that when i do this, it usually works. most times we dont take the time to pay attention to see how our bodies truly feel. luck!

The nachos at the bar I go to are the devil. And whats worse is that all my friends go smoke outside and I'm left there to stare at the menu. First thing to cut calories is to make every other drink water.(Helps with hangover too) Try to eat a decent meal before you even go to the bar. Bring several flavors of sugar free candis with you. It will occupy your mouth. Go to the bathroom and put on some lipstick perfectly.(Don't ruin it by eating)and when all else fails put in an extra session at the gym.

well just don't eat the leftovers if they are really bad for you and/or are going to really upset you if you do....of course don't try to compensante for yesterday today....

as for me, I've had drunken episodes where my eating has gone out the window....especially with the bar nachos and those huge fudge sundaes they make at like the chain restaurants....I have also had the other problem where I didn't eat before/during drinking, which also was EXTREMELY stupid (and dangerous)....when I eat while drinking, as much as the cals upset me the next day if I remember, it is better than passing out and not controlling throwing up like when I don't eat and drink.....so I guess eating is better than not eating....having/recovering from an ED and going out is hard...trust me I know. I am a guy, so my friends expect me to be throwing back beers and stuff and always laugh at me when I order either Coors light or have like a cosmo, screwdriver, vodka and light cranberry juice, or a jack and diet coke lol

you'll be fine...hope you had a fun party!

double post-----sorry!

i loose my appetite when i drink; but i would get some sugar free gum to chew, pop two peices in your mouth till the gum seems to satisfy your cravings. if that isn't enough i read someone mentioned eating veggies with some low cal sauce. i like to mix mustard/ketchup/ hotsauce/ honey-mustard together, any which way. baby carrots rock!!!

Maybe I am so used to keeping things simple.  Don't get drunk!  Is "enjoy responsibly" or "all things in moderation" an option?  That will keep you from not only binging on food but also reduce the chances of making any other poor choices.  Seems to me we do what is most important to us. You have to decide is it healthy eating/living or over doing it most important to you.  You could start developing a healthy outlook on eating and drinking now and benefit from both for the rest of your life.  Trust me it is easier to do that now than to try to backtrack as you get older.  Just look around you at all the unhealthy people in America.

Just a thoughtUndecided

Thanks everyone - some very good suggestions me thinks. Its only a problem when its like at my house? When I'm at someone elses's I don't eat at all but for some reason when its round mine, all thoughts go out the window.

Next time its round mine I'll get some healthy snacks and gum for me - it seems really especially at this age all snacks at this sort of thing are like pizza, crisps, popcorn, chocolate ect and if its there I munch it hehe.

And no lol not getting drunk really isn't an option. I don't do it every night and not even every weekend, but when we do party, getting drunk is just part of it for me and I love it. Maybe its not healthy but...that doesn't massively concern me if I'm entirely honest. >.<

I can't control myself while drunk at all and I'll binge on anything available. The last time I was truly drunk, I came home and ate a package of Slim fast bars. Not an item a dieter would usually worry about having in the house, but at 220 calories a bar and eating 7 bars after the tequila... well, you do the math :)

The only thing I can do is moderate how much I drink. I never go above 3 drinks in a night anymore, or I know that if I don't pass out first, I will binge.
