Am I eating enough for breakfast?
Asked by maddiestrang0 on Oct 26, 2008 in Eating Disorders

I'm currently recovering from anorexia, and so the amount of calories I should be taking in at each meal-- well, I'm a little fuzzy on it.  Normally, at breakfast, I've been trying to eat about 180 - 200 calories. I'm a pretty active person and I exercise regularly. Is this enough calories?

Answer

Your breakfast is short on calories.  You, personally, need 2000 calories a day, and so to reach your goal, divide the day into three segments: the time you arise until midday, midday until dinner, and dinner until bedtime, and then aim for 600 - 700 calories per segment.  You can eat all of the calories at one meal, or you can have two or three mini-meals per segment.  For example, your breakfast could contain 1 medium banana, 1.5 cups of cereal, 1 cup of 1% fat milk, and 1 cup of orange juice for 500 calories, and then at mid-morning (or another time of day), you could eat 1 cup of flavored yogurt for another 200 calories.
