I was just wondering if anyone else does this.  I LOVE salad, but I am kind of lazy so I tend to buy the stuff thats prewashed and in a "bag o lettuce".  I was wondering if its "normal" to eat the entire bag (typically I do this when a salad is my "meal" or the main part of my meal.  Is this OD-ing on the lettuce?

I do it ALL the time.  No way are you "OD"ing on it - for one thing, it's only 45 calories in the entire flippin' bag.

too funny!  i don't think it's a bad thing at all!

i rarely get bagged lettuce....i tend to go for the spring mix or i buy romaine and cut up three heads at a time...which generally gives me only three salads!  but the comment you made--about ODing on salad-caught my attention cos maybe i'm the same...if i go to my parents' let's say for a meal i look at the salad my mother makes--for everyone!-and it's less than i make for myself in one sitting....to which i always add carrots and peppers, sometimes olives or pecans or whatever...so u can just imagine the size!  :)

but it's not just good for you...it's awesome for u!  i would just honestly try to get something other than the iceberg (if that's what you get) to up the goodness!

I can't afford the premade lettuce bags, but there are many times when I eat a whole head of lettuce in one sitting (when it's the central point of my meal). When I rip it up it fills 2 GIANT mixing bowls, so it's probably about as much as three of your salad bags. :P

If you're in the mood to eat a big salad, go for it. It's better than over-eating pasta or bread or something. The trick is not to go overboard on the dressing, because that's really the only downside to absurdly large salads.

I`ve also been known to eat an entire head of lettuce in one sitting. I mostly do it when I have a meal of calorie dense stuff, and I know the volume wouldn`t fill me up, so I take very small bites of the meal itself and then stuff a lettuce leaf in my mouth. Sort of a lazy (wo)man`s salad, I guess. xD

In college I would eat it straight from the bag. Open bag. Pour in a little dressing. Close and shake bag. Use fork.

I've done this plenty... but not often. Those pre-made salads are PRICEY.

to a "normal" person's perspective, it's probably "weird"... but it seems pretty common to a CC dieter

we all have our "weird" food fetishes

...

I still can't get over how 95% of the population must put ranch dressing on everything!! BLAH

but if you much eat those salads, opt for ones other then iceberg lettuce mixes for more nutrition... like mixed baby greens or spinach

Totally agree, darker leaves are much more nutritious. That said, any way we can get our daily dose of greens (minus the ranch/mayo) is a great thing in my book. I'm not a fan of boring lettuce + tomatoes + cucumber salads, but there are thousands of great ingredients out there I can add. Salads rock!

Oh oh oh, I know this one!

Probably because ranch dressing is one of the best inventions mankind has ever concocted, and if inanimate objects could be awarded The Nobel Prize for Deliciousness then fries dipped in ranch dressing would totally win. And pizza dipped in ranch would be runner up. Oh yes.

;P

DUDE! I bought a 4 pound bag of spinach - YES 4 POUNDS!!! (this was like 2 days ago) and I probably have about 2 pounds left - SO I know where you're coming from when you say you eat the entire bag of lettuce - I do the SAME THING with spinach!! So not a bad thing though! You need all the lettuce & fiber you can get so don't feel guilty ONE BIT!

(ALTHOUGH if you are DROWNING this lettuce with bottled dressings from your grocery store... then you should feel guilty)

yummy_kitty, I agree! I don't know where you're from, but maybe it's a southern thing? I love ranch! I love other salad dressings too, but ranch is my one true love. I can't give it up, even though I've made this lifestyle change. I DO buy fat free ranch now (which is pretty good if you get the right brand) so it's only 30 calories per 2 tbsp! I only really use 1 tbsp anyways. :)

Ditto. I get fat free ranch and use about 1 tbsp at a time. That's enough for a medium salad as long as you mix it well.

Back in high school I could eat like a horse and not gain a pound and I'd smother everything in the full-fat ranch dressing from the cafeteria. I would even just eat a cup of ranch dressing by the spoonful when the mood struck. My arteries hate me now :P

Ranch does go a long way in a salad, doesn't it? I used to be just like you though, I'd pour tons of it on everything! I used to eat baked potatoes with ranch mixed in, lol.

Now I savour the little bit that I give myself. :)
