Hey, I saw a show about a technique in losing weight that has you increase your fiber intake to cut calories. I've been trying it out with my calorie counting and it seems to be working. I try to eat a minimum of 30 g of fiber everyday sometimes as much as 45 g and it actually helps me keep within my calorie limits because most fibery foods are low cal and filling, and I make myself eat them before other foods. Like the double fiber bread has almost half the cals of the other breads(nature's own/ 40 cal 5 g fiber) and veggies and fruit and bran cereals have tons of fiber and little calories. And I eat like twice the amount of food that I ate before. But the real cool thing is that lots of fiber in your digestive system supposedly keeps your body from absorbing some of the calories you eat. 7 calories for every gram of fiber. So I'm testing the waters and I'm pretty happy so far, anybody else have a successful experience trying this?

i tried this but went very badly. eat loads of extra fibre and also tried phyislm husks (sorry about spelling). Ended up feeling so bloated that i couldnt excerise as was too uncomfortable and didnt feel slimmer with a sticky out tummy. Definately not for me, but if its working good luck keep it up.,
I consistently eat over 30 grams of fibre a day and luckily do not feel bloated. And I think it has helped with the weight loss. I agree imnowotny that eating sufficient fibre is an excellent way to keep the weight loss ticking along.
Evidently not all fibres are created equal though. There is insoluble and soluble... I think I get a blend of both. I don't eat any specific "bran" cereal, or any thing else specifically designed to increase fibre. Just lots of fruit and veg, whole grains, and legumes.

P.S. I do like Oroweat Double Fibre bread. Tastes great to me for only 70 calories a slice.
Yeah, I only get bloated when I overdo the broccoli or the psyllium fiber, so I try to get fiber from oats and wheat and other fruits and vegetables. I just look at the labels in the store on foods before I buy them to make sure they have extra fiber, and then I don't think about it, it just adds up on its own because I did the work when I went shopping. It's so much easier to lose weight when you only have the foods you should eat available, and when you don't have to starve yourself or eat gross frozen -supposedly healthy-meals with too much sodium. 52 lbs lost with the south beach diet then I had a baby and I lost the 35 lbs that I gained during pregnancy, now I'm working on the last 30 or so and I can't do a low carb diet because of breastfeeding so I'm counting calories, can't wait to get into my college size again!!
Can I go slightly off topic and ask what you eat to keep your fiber up? I eat a lot of veggies and high fiber cereal, but I still have a really hard time getting enough fiber.
