eating "healthy" but not losing weight?
Hi everyone,
I went to see a nutritionist about two weeks ago, but after following her plan for two weeks, I have not seen any weight loss! I've gone down two pounds in one day, and then regained it in one, but for the most part, I've just been maintaining...
I burn between 500-700 calories a day through exercise, and my daily calorie intake falls between 1000-1200, composed mainly from fruit and protein. I know I'm getting all my necessary vitamins, but I'm so frustrated that I'm not losing any weight!
Is there an explanation for this??
(For the record, my measurements are not decreasing either.)
Two weeks isn't a very long time.
Mainly eating fruit and protien wouldn't be right for most people and neither would eating so little, but I assume you picked a good qualified nutritionist who had good reasons for choosing such a diet for you.
As far as I'm aware there is some variation in the level of qualification you have to have to be called a nutritionist though. If you are worried about the plan you have been given maybe you should find a second opinion.
Other wise make sure you aren't over estimating your exercise or underestimating how much you are eating. Both are very easy to do when you first start. Weighing food is the only way to be sure you are eating the right quantity.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but you're only consuming 1200 cals max per day and burning 500-700 in exercise... so your body only gets 500-700 to use? You're not eating enough to maintain basic bodily functions. 1200 cals is the bare minimum needed per day. Also, a well balanced diet includes fruit, vegetables, whole grain and lean protein. It's not likely you're getting ALL necessary vitamins if your diet is mostly fruits & "protein".
Also, two weeks is not long enough to see any major changes.

That isn't eating healthy.
You are not eating enough. Get a new nutritionist. Any nutritionist worth their salt will not let you dip below 1200 cals AT ALL. You need to be eating significantly more than that.
I think what is happening is that you are going into starvation mode and your body is fighting to keep the fat right where it is.
Hey everyone,
Thanks for the input. I'm getting whole grains in my diet too, but in much smaller doses because I'm allergic some forms of carbs. I guess I may be too hasty; I'll try to wait it out a bit longer and see if I can get any results.
Hopefully this plateau will end sometime soon. My nutritionist didn't specify that I had to eat under 1200, but that's basically what I'm accustomed to (I don't get hungry much), so that may be the problem. I'll try to add more calories to my diet.
Thanks again!
I think the point is that you need to add a LOT of calories to your diet. If you're only taking in 1000 to 1200, and you're burning 500 to 700, you're not taking in enough to live off of properly. You're starving yourself, and your body will likely fight the weight loss as much as it can.
What exactly did your nutritionist recommend? How much of what? How many calories? Did you tell your nutritionist how much you're working out?
