eating higher cals now in order to maintain on normal cals
question.... the whole theory on eating higher cals (2500+) so that you are able to maintain on lower and not have to maintain on 1200 or something crazy.... it sounds right to me.
But... where did it come from? A nutritionist? I asked mine and she said there is no validity to it, though many people, including myself, may need that many in order to gain. She said there is no telling how many cals a body will need later to maintain.
Is she wrong? Because it does sound right?!? I may post this elsewhere as well so ignore me if you have read it. I am just curious before I up my cals. Which I am gonna do anyway to gain.
Cause I would hate to maintain on 1500 or below but my nutritionist says you can't tailor your metabolism like that.
Where did you all hear this theory?
Hi there,
I don't know the answer to the your question but one thing that struck me when I was reading your post was that when you are healthy do you really want to know how many cals you need per day? I've been doing a lot of thinking about how I want my life to be and one thing I know for sure is that I don't want to live every day according to a number, because we shouldn't base ourselves, ourself worth on a number. I have faith that if I can let myself listen to my body it will tell me what I need and how much of it.....(easy said than done and I'm still not able to do this) but I think that naturally you take in x amount one day and x amount another day and it all evens out in the end. My new mantra is 'I am not a number.'
Counting cals makes my life so damn misrable, I just want to enjoy life! I also wanted to say keep going hun, we can all do this, keep fighting, your doing so so well!
SO TRUE!!!!
hey dana
I'm so damn confused about that theory as well as I keep hearing people saying 'I don't want to maintain on 1200 calories forever' or something like that. Are they saying that if they gain on 1700, they're going to maintain on 1200? o.O
Doesn't sound very logical... but I don't know =( Calorie counting is the biggest mistake in my life, and definitely my biggest regret. Let's keep on striving towards recovery, Dana!!
xx
i wish more people would respond to this post, especially the one's doing the program of raising to maintain... hint hitnt:)
DANA-supposedly eating at least 2500 cals is what your body needs to restore the metabolism. a restored metabolism would mean that its not slow and clinging to every last cal in the future like it is now if you are gaining on anything below 2000. 2000 is maintenance for most moderately active females, which you are. so, hopefully, by eating more now, restoring and in turn speeding up one's metabolism, they will be be able to maintain on more in the future than if they continues to gain on 1800 and never increasing.
this is what i have gotten from various ppl on this site. i am doing recovery alone andont see anyone. the 1 Nut. i did go to teold me to remain at 2000 since i was steadily gaining 1.5lbs a week. since i was told otherwise by many ppl on this site as well as the fact that i was still hungry on that amount, i chose to increase my calories bc i figured im gaining either way, i might as well not bu hungry and hopefully restore my health and metabolism for the future.
hope that helped
it has thanks just want everyones opinion.. xoxo agru
