Am I eating too much or too little?

Quote  |  Reply

I listed myself as light activity, I generally work out 30 min to 60 min a day.  It says I should eat 1500 cal a day.  I try to eat a lot of protein and generally oscillate between 1200-1600 depending on my mood (to be honest).

I weighed 150 when I started, lost 5 pounds now, but it's very slow going and my first weight loss was before CC was 178 to 150 in a very short time.  Then I stuck at 150 for almost a month.

Am I battling with starvation mode right now because of my exercising?  What is your experience?

ALSO I feel like this might be pertinent:  I have never been below 150 EVER...I have been chubby all my life- and my mother was basically 150ish all her life.

i dont have an answer for your question (sorry), but your hair is sooo cool!!

thanks

your age and height would be helpful for others to provide opinions...

Sometimes it helps to list yourself as sedentary and enter in all your activity separately.  Basically, set a calorie goal based on the recommendation for a sedentary person, normally 500-800 calories less than it says you will burn in a day, then add in the amount of calories you burn in exercising each day to keep a 500-800 calorie deficit for the entire day.

I am 5'4 and 28 years old. I used to weigh 280.  At 145 for a 5'4 person cc lists me as slightly overweight.

Thanks for the advice!

sounds to me like you're doing alright.  at your height and weight a sedentary person burns 1700 calories a day - so that would put you at 1200 calories a day to have a 500 calorie deficit.  Just add to that the amount of calories you burn while exercising to keep a 500 calorie deficit, and make sure you aren't hungry or depriving yourself, and don't eat less than 1200 calories in a regular day if you don't exercise.  You should lose an average of a pound a week, if you're eating foods that are good for you, not just low calorie.  Slow and steady wins the race!

Edit - you're down to 145 from 280?!?! Dang, girl - you rock!  I'm at 271 right now, down from 300 - you are an inspiration!

:D You're my 12 years older twin!(I'm 5'4 and 140)

I think you're doing great. From my experience whenever I hit a plateau I either patiently wait to get over it or I change something in my eating/exercising routine. Getting over a psychological weight barrier is quite overwhelming sometimes, maybe your body still needs to adjust :P.

Congrats about the major weight loss and I love your hair too. <3<3<3
