So I'm a recovering anorexic and I used to eat very very little indeed. I had about 300 calories a day with the odd binge every week or so. It was doing amazingly and I was dropping the pounds (not as fast as you think though). I'm now eating about 800 a day and gaining... a lot
Oddly enough, I'm still overweight so I'd like to continue losing but doing that in a healthier way. I know I need to build my metabolism back up but it's obviously not working with the methods I'm trying. I exercise a LOT, doing spin classes at the gym every day and some form of dance in the evenings so it really doesn't make sense.
I don't know should I stick to 800 a day? Should I eat 1000 and hope for the best?
Reason: Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.
You aren't eating enough.
Your body is in starvation mode
Consider talking to a therapist or professional help... you are NOT in recovery if you are eating only 800 a day and claim that anorexia was "working amazingly" in helping you lose weight. You need to cut down on exercising until your body gets back into a HEALTHY state, meaning that you NEED to feed it.
Don't play coy, you know what you need to do... I'm sorry if I'm not being sympathetic but you don't even sound like you're actually dedicated to recovery.
I'm not sure what the number is for guys, but I've read over and over on these forums that women should never eat below 1200 calories daily.
I'd recommend going up to 1000 and *then* slowly working your way up to a much healthier number like 1800. Your body will even itself out if you let it, but you *have* to let it. Since you have an ED, that area is probably in a higher number then you're comfy with right now.
Don't give up. You can get better if you let yourself.
According to one of your other posts, you're 5'6 and 97 pounds, and claiming that you're "still overweight" really, really concerns me. You need to see a nutritionist immediately and have them devise you an eating plan. 800 is not enough, 1000 is not enough. At 5'6 and under 100 pounds, you need to GAIN weight, not lose it. The nutritionist will give you a diet that you must follow, and you can't exercise all day to try and work off those cals.
As livetolove said, if you think 800 is enough, if you're singing the praises of how 'well' anorexia worked, and, ESPECIALLY if you think you're "still overweight" at 5'6 and 90-something pounds, I really question how 'in recovery' you are.
I see from your other post that you're seeing a psychologist, which I commend, but you really need to see a nutritionist.
Really? Seriously now ... REALLY??? Ugh, jeez, every time I read a post like this it just makes me want to kick something.
You:
Are NOT in recovery
NEED a therapist
Are NOT eating enough
Are KILLING YOURSELF AND DOING IRREPARABLE DAMAGE TO YOUR BODY
DO NOT NEED A DIET SITE!
Get some help, sweetie, and don't expect anyone on this site to encourage you and tell you how to lose more weight.
Tattooed kitty that is a poor response.
Not everyone needs a therapist

Not tattooed_kitty, but I completely agree with her that this girl (the OP) needs a therapist/some kind of psychological help (which according to the orginal post, she's 'taking care of'). Yes, 'not everyone needs it', but if she thinks 800 cals is acceptable, or, ESPECIALLY that she's 'overweight' at 90-something pounds, yes, she needs someone dedicated to helping her overcome that disordered way of thinking.

Tattooed kitty gave the best response I've seen.
If you weigh 97 pounds, come onto a calorie counting website where "1200 calories MINIMUM for a small woman doing absolutely nothing all day" is plastered all over, & proceed to say that you're overweight & don't know if you should keep eating 800 calories a day, you DO need a therapist.
& you ARE killing yourself.
Her post is actually what I was gonna say.
Why should I gain weight if I'm not significantly underweight?
Actually, at 5 feet 5.25 inches and 96 - 98 pounds, your weight is below the healthy weight range for your height and age. There are... Read more
