Eating Locally (locavores)
Eat Locally! If you are trying to cut down on processed foods or wish to add more organic foods to your diet, then try eating locally and support your local farmers. Become a locavore! It also helps the environment. Even folks in the cities can find a farmer's market. Check it out.
There are other sites. Anyone know some?
Can't wait til I get a house so I can start growing all my own veggies and stuff though
Huge farmers market fan, here. The produce tastes so much better than the supermarket, and you know the money is going right to the farmer. I'm lucky to live in California where it is farmers' market heaven.
http://www.ethicurean.com is a good blog that talks about local food and food policy issues.
We do this as much as possible. Chicago winters make it rough...
Don't just eat locally -- buy from local clothing makers, eat at local diners, spend your money in your community in a way that it will keep your community strong.

This may be a stupid question... I have been wanting to go to farmers markets for ages now, and usually when I google it, I actually end up at that website.
But how about in the Winter? That website seems to give me tons of options but only in the spring and summer. Where do you go in the other seasons?
Farmers markets are a great place to find organic fruits and veggies! You also run into everyone you know and have a nice little social outting.
Off season, talk to the people who stock your supermarket. Locally two of our markets now have organic fruit and veggie sections! You can also ask what has been grown locally or by your favorite organic co-ops. try support family farms whenever you can.
Dinning out? My favorite Bistro features organic produce, often purchased from the farmers market or a local farm, and even specility herbs grown by a trusted client.
Green is good for your body, good for the Earth, and good for your hometown!
