Will not eating meat for a week, help me lose weight?  It does cut off fat..doesn't it?  I've been eating about 1100 calories a day, and so far nada, nothing.

No.  What does "cut off fat" mean?

You're not eating enough.  That's why you're not losing.

Thanks...the thing is I never feel hungry, and when I do, I end up eating too little calories :(

You don't have to eat meat, however; getting the protein is important. I am about the same as you. I have been averaging about 1000 to 1200 calories a day. I've trained myself for so long to choose healthy foods that I really don't feel hungry, but sometimes eat because I should. I go out and buy alot of white chicken breast, chop it up into squares after I cook it, freeze it and use it in salads, etc. every day. I do this with fish also. I cook it ahead of time and just pick it out of the freezer and microwave it. Boil up an egg, or what ever. Since I really don't eat alot of meat, I bought the EAS Soy Protein drink mix, and chug one of those down. You can mix that with ice, a banana and it makes for a great milk shake. But do it early and before you exersize. There are many ways to get your protein. This is just a few ideas.

Cutting out meat for one week will probably not have any positive effect at all.  I've been about 99% vegetarian for the past 4 years.  I can't say it made me lose any weight, but my normal body mass is smaller than it used to be, if that makes sense.  But that took a really long time.  Unless you're making good, filling substitutions - which can take vegetarians years to perfect - you're likely to just fill the meat void by eating a bunch of simple carbohydrates that will not be nearly as filling.  End result = more calories.

IMHO, I think you'd be better off eating no meat one day a week than following this "fasting" approach.

Try eating around 1300 calories a day.  Avocados, nuts, full fat dairy, full fat salad dressings, will help you get more calories in with making you feel stuffed.

The only thing that will help you lose or gain weight is eating fewer or more calories.  Weight gain really doesn't depend on what you eat, just how much.  However, weight loss and good nutrition should go hand in hand.

If you want to do without meat, then make sure you get your protein from other sources because you need it.

Meat is not bad. Just make healthy choices.

Thanks..have you lost any weight eating 1000 to 1200?  Because isn't below 1200 starvation?

Cutting out meat for a week may help you drop some weight, but it will not stay off. I was a vegetarian for 8 years and the initial change caused me to drop weight, but my body leveled off and while still being a vegetarian I gained to my highest weight of 200lbs. Look for longterm/lifelong healthy changes that can get your body to and keep your body at the weight you want. That's really the only solution.

As a teenager you should be consuming no less than 1500 calories per day. That is the bare bones minimum.

Thank you nycgirl! Man, it amazes me how many people have joined this site and aren't using it fully or researching at all! I joined looking for help, thinking that I couldn't really know that much, until I started reading. I'm finding that I'm giving more advice than getting because everyone just joins and asks group questions expecting someone to tell them what to do without finding out for themselves. I'm not being rude, but this idea is just silly.

First things first, you're not losing because you're not eating enough. 1200 calories a day is bare minimum to stay alive. You are essentially tricking your body into thinking you are starving and it in turn is preparing for a fast. Your body starts shutting down, less energy, slower metabolism, all in a combined effort to store fat. You should use cc and all the helpful caloric calculators in your profile. This will tell you how much you need to eat to balance out with your exercise level. Which brings me to my next point, how much are your exercising?

One thing I did do before starting a weight loss regimen was RESEARCH!!!! If you have even an hour of just simple online reading,  you will see that 1200 calories is def bare minimum, especially if you're exercising. Get to know how the body works, here are a few facts that you should never, EVER forget:

*Eat more, HEALTHY foods and work out to burn the calorie intake, it should be a balance, working with each other, not against

*If you starve yourself, you will only see initial results, plateau, and eventually start gaining. Maintain your insulin levels throughout the day. You only want to peak them pre work out with good carbs. Cheating will spike your insulin level, your body will go into starvation mode, and you will STORE everything you ate.

*Eat thoughout the day (5 small meals, every 3 hours) again, if your body thinks your not eating, it goes into the defensive

*work out in the morning if possible, this is when your body's natural fat burners peak

*Always eat a high protein/carb meal pre-workout, and a post workout meal should be no more than 30 minutes after you finish exercising

*Your body will release a fat burning enzyme after 20 minutes of increased heart rate, so perhaps an hour of cardio would be beneficial

Just remember, our bodies were not meant to be thin and pretty-they were meant for survival, and they're VERY good at what they do. You can live 2 weeks minumum without food, can you guess how? Your body is extremly advanced technology and you have to treat it as such.

I thought your profile said you were born in the 40s?  Did you change it or did I forget how to read?  If you were born in the 90s, 1300 calories isn't enough either.

Eat more.

Tell me about it.  People are all into my business when they can't even take care of their own. :/

You may want to give up pork, there's quite some fat in it. And also no fried stuff.

Now fat is bad..........this thread should end soon before all the politically correct mumbo jumbo start giving people indigestion. Smile j/k
