Eating more to lose, but feeling too full... could this be right???

Quote  |  Reply

So I used the caloric intake calculator, and it says that I should eat around 1700 calories for *maintenance* (but I'm trying to lose about 10 more lbs at most)..... but I guess my stomach isn't used to it or something but I feel wayyy too full after eating today. I'm 5'4" and 22 years old, and I had about 1550 calories today, but my stomach is sticking out like crazyyyyy and I feel past comfortable in terms of fullness. For all you people out there who have reached your goal weight and are maintaining, do you feel really full too even when you've eaten the right amount of calories?

Do you think that maybe 1550 cals is too much for me? Because I feel extremely full right now and I don't see anyone walking around with an expanded stomach like me. lol

It is not too much for you. This happens after a period of lesser eating as your stomach can shrink to adapt. Continue eating the level you have reached now, your body will adapt back in the same way.

Do you know how many calories you were eating before? I am also 5'4 and 21 yrs old and it told me the same thing. So i eat about 1400-1500 a day, sometimes tho when i dont do any exercise at all i eat a little more than 1200 cause i dont want to store fat but i level it out.

What kind of foods are you eating? If you aren't already, you can try eating more calorie dense foods instead of a lot of low calorie low fat foods.

I usually meet my calorie intake with a hefty dessert of 1/2 cup whipping cream + 2 Tbsp cream cheese whipped & then semi-frozen. It's delicious & knocks up my numbers without feeling like a ton of bricks in my stomach.

I'm really glad you asked this. Lately I've really been wondering the same thing. Im 5'9  135 and they want me to eat over 1700! I honestly don't think I've ever done that before. So right now I'm eating around 1500 a day and I feel huge the whole day. So your not alone thats for sure, wish we both knew what to do about it because I hate this feeling...

Are you eating most of your calories in 3 meals or less? That could be the problem. Eating 6 small meals in a day might make you feel better while keeping your metabolism high. What you eating could also be the reason your feeling full. Some foods make you feel fuller than others.

+1 on spacing out the meals, 5-6 smaller meals and a snack works great.

I have been eating more now the past 2 weeks and my body has adjusted great adjusted and I have lost another 3 pounds since and I feel great and have added strength now as well. My new pants I bought are getting lose already which is good because I needed to keep losing in that area.

If you dont mind me asking, what was your intake before increasing and what is it now?

Ive been trying to convince myself to do this for around 3 months but I never get the courage because Im afraid my increase will just cause my body to hold on to the extra when it recieves it.

On July 18th I cut cold turkey on regular sodas and fast food.

I was eating about 4-5 smaller meals a day.

Like cereal and fat free milk and some juice

Then lunch meat sandwich and fruit

Then Turkey burger and veggies

Then Yogurt and some sort of cereal / protein bar

Then eggwhites and a regular egg

That totaled to about 1400 if that, I did not count back when I started. I felt fine the whole time because half the exercises I was doing was walking or biking easily.

Now I eat 7 meals almost a day and trying to be at a 40% carbs/40% protein/20% fat.

Then I slowly added bigger portions to and starting counting calories, that added up to around mid 1600, then I moved to 1800 range, than now to 2k range. All over the past 3 months. I am trying now to stop losing weight as quickly and at the same time build alittle bit of muscle. Pretty seem I am going to up again to 2200 and see how that works. Still just under my maintanece sedentary levels but will work out alittle harder with weights now.

I am just at my goal of 174, but have been stuck their the past 3-4 days so I believe tomorrow I am due for a 173 on the scale hopefully.
