Eating more to lose does work! How I lost on vacation.....

It's been said time and time again on this site but I experienced it.  I started CC on Feb. 14 at 151.5.  I'm on 1200 calories a day (only 5 feet tall).  Anywho, I started out losing 3 lbs the first week then settled in at an average of 1.5 per week.  THEN 3 weeks ago, only 1 lb.  Not too concerned,  THEN the following week only .5 lbs.  Which I know is still okay but I could feel something was happening and my metabolism was slowing down.

I had a feeling I was eating too little what with exercising and such.  Checked CC and it said increase to 1300 calories.  Well, I was going on vacation for 5 days to visit family, so I decided the first two days to eat healthy but eat more.  I didn't count.  The next three days I ate healthy but less than I ate the first two days.   I didn't count again, it was hard to count because we were traveling, other people cooking, restaurants, etc.  I was able to work out once.

This week I lost 1.5 lbs!  ON VACATION PEOPLE.  Listen to your body.  I could feel that I needed a kick start before I plateaued and it worked!  I'm at 137 now.

I discovered the same thing in a similarly accidental way.  Slower and slower weight-loss....  had a weekend with friends.... decided to kick back a little and eat more than normal..... ended up a lot lighter!!

Having subsequently adopted 'eat a bit more than normal' as a deliberate weight-loss strategy I found it was really effective at keeping things moving.  Plus it's quite good for the soul to relax the rules slightly.

Think anyone's going to believe us?... LOL!

I believe you! i have experienced the same thing numerous times! i try to give my mind body and soul a break every couple of weeks (sometimes a little more frequent) and eat more and while the scale is up the next day, it is WAY down the 2nd or 3rd day after! YEAH!

I believe you.  I'm currently losing on what are supposedly maintenance calories.

Ohhhh man I hope this happens to me when I go on vacation in two weeks...

I do remember this being the case when I lost 30+ pounds in 2001-2002. I reached my goal weight of 145 and then ate maintenavce for a few days and POOF I dropped to 143. Loved that.

Now I am 144 with a goal of 140... Really worried that I will gain on my week's vacation , noooooo. I just managed to lose 7 pounds these past few months.

I believe you.

Like a lot of women the only thing I had ever heard was "eat less".  What I did not know is that the less you eat the more your metabolism slows to a crawl.

If your defficit is too big you just can not lose the weight because you body simply does not want to let go.

I nearly cried when I realized that I had been starving myself.  Happily I now eat almost twice what I used to eat and I have lost 17 lbs since February.

Cookies still make my thighs feel fat though.  lol

I think the only reason i have stuck with counting is because i think of it as eating to loose weight. i notice that if i eat too little my weight may go down but it will go back up again if i eat around the same everyday (which seems like alot sometimes) it goes down pretty steadily.
