How does eating at night affect your weight loss efforts?? Please Help!!!

Hi everyone,  I work nights so I usually bring my veggies/fruits and some nuts for a snack, I eat throughout the night usually stopping around 12:30 and on occasion if I'm still hungry I will finish the banana I brought in the car at around 2:30 am.  These are of course worked into my calories for the day.  However this weekend the scale said i gained 1.5lbs. overnight and now I'm still the same weight today so this must be real weight? I couldn't have eaten that much food in one day/night.  Should I stop eating at work? I'm so hungry while I'm there I workout everyday 65 min. cardio, and even at the end of the day I usually have about 300-400 cals left, I'm trying to eat more but I'm scared or something espeically since I'm not losing weight :(!  I've been eating around 1900 cals and my target is set for  2200-2300 cals/day and my total burn is 2850 so thats still a pretty good deficit I thought, but am I not losing because I"m eating too much? or becasue I'm not eating ALL the cals. by the end of the day.  I'm so stressed and confused and just want to give up all my hope is gone, I'm barely losing inches and clearly can't lose anymore weight, maybe I'm a failure? I know I've come so far, but I want to go further and I just don't know what I"m doing wrong :(

No replies, anyone have any suggestions.

if you consider 3500 calories =1 lb there is no way you gained 1.5 lbs in one night,  and keep in mind your weight will fluctuate through out the day(some times by 5 lbs). Dont focus so much on the scale, only weigh your self once a week so you can see your average weight loss. I know its hard! lol but at least you wont obsess over every fluctuation.

First of all working nights can be tricky.  You still need to make sure you are eating 3 good meals with snacking in between.   Are you on a good eating schedule?  If you are hungry at work, which I would think you would be if you slept during the day, then eat.  Eat something with some good protein that will stay with you longer than fruits and veggies.  Just because most of us are sleeping at night and don't eat, those rules do not apply to you.  That is when you are being most active, you'll need food to fuel that.  You may have just hit a plateau, don't freak out, it happens.  Do some recalculating to make sure you are eating enough and maybe change up your workout a bit.  Cardio everyday may not be the answer, I would consider exchanging some of those days with some resistance/weight training.

Don't give up.  You've made progress and should be proud of that.  Stay calm and keep up all the good work.

Thanks! I don't sleep all day because I have 2 small children so when their up I'm up usually get home around 2:30 am and up at 8:30-9:00 am. Heres what my scheduale looks like.

Eat Breakfast

workout

lunch

rest

snack

dinner

snacks at work (almonds, fruit and carrots) and during the day I drink 7 bottles of water. I've tried upping my calories a few wks. ago and it worked but now its not and I"m scared of gaining.  Maybe I should do weights 2x/wk and cardio and abs the rest?? All i have for weights are DVD's "Turbo Sculpt" and the "Biggest Loser Bootcamp"  maybe I will do the turbo sculpt today, but last week when I did the bootcamp one I gained weight becasue I must've worked my muscles too hard and they were retaining the water.  Thanks for your suggestions :) Keep them coming.
