eating until sick and full

Quote  |  Reply

I always come home from school and want to eat a lot of breads. Sometimes I'm don't even really feel hungry, i just want to eat. I eat a balanced filling breakfast, i eat a snack at school, for lunch i always bring my own, even though i would rather have a nice hot meal, but our cafeteria food is all packaged, greasy, trans fat loaded junk, so i try to avoid it. However, because i have to pre plan my meal, i can't always have exactly what i want at the moment, so when i come home from school, even if i'm not hungry, i have been craving like 5 different things since lunch, and i eat big helpings of all of them.  Then i think of another type of food to eat, and i eat that, then i think of another and on and on. By the time supper arrives, i have already eaten lots of sweets and lots of bread and unhealthy food, and i feel full and sick. But then i want to eat supper, because it will be nutriet rich foods, and so i always eat a really good sized supper, because i can't throw it away. By the time supper is over, i feel so full and sick I just end up sitting thinking about how i could have done things differently, and promising myself tomorrow, i will change, but "tommorrow" has not come yet.

side note: I have a healthy weight of 110-112 lbs. for 5' 2''.

I have also had eating disorders, but am no longer struggle with fear foods, or anything else. Except i lost my period over a year ago, and still do not have it back.

do you ever incorporate these foods into your typical diet? when you're not binging? if you don't, then you're restricting them.. and that's why you're binging on them. have bread as part of a meal.. allow yourself sweets as snacks when you crave them.. eat "unhealthy foods" once in a while. when you make a decision to incorporate these foods into your diet, the need to binge on them will go away because your body won't feel deprived.

also, if you haven't had your period in so long, that is a sure sign that your body is missing something. it's probably craving the nutrients it needs to get you healthy again.. don't fight it. are you eating enough fats? those really help out in getting back your period.

but most importantly, are you eating enough? you should be getting atleast 1500 calories a day.. if you're not, you should really try to if you want to stop the binges.

I eat 2,000 or over calories a day, because i eat so many fats, like peanut and almond butter, whole fat yogurt, nuts, olive oil, fish, etc, which are high calorie. I try and eat pretty much whatever foods i want in my typical diet, which includes fruits, veggies, breads, meats, fats, etc. It is only when i come home from school that i have any problems. Also if the food is in the house, i just have to eat it, then i can't stop at just one... I would like to not keep it in the house but other people living here eat it, so i can't just get rid of it. I have tried setting it off limits, because it is theirs, but i still end up eating it, i have tried just letting myself have it and i end up eating the same amount.

For a time i was eating around 3,600 calories, but started getting refeeding syndrome and had to cut back or i literally could have died from it. So i don't think i am lacking any nutrients, and i know i do not have too little fat. i don't know why i still don't have my period.

Wow... you've just retold my life story. Except I usually eat over 3, 000 cals a day. And thats from binging. I totally understand "setting things off limits", then eating it all myself.

*hug*

I am in the same boat as you.

How many calories are you eating in the day before you get home from school?  If you feel an urge to binge because you're hungry, that you should up your caloric intake.

If you do, however, feel an urge to binge when you're not hungry, you should see a therapist to learn new coping mechanisms and sort out what exactly is it that triggers you.  You said you have had experiences w/ ED's - do you still see a therapist?

i probably eat about 1000 calories during the day. I don't really feel all that hungry, so i don't think it is because of hunger. I still see my therapist, but not as often because she and i have decided i am not in need of as much counseling. I don't think it is ed related, because i don't really have any symptoms. Maybe i just need to learn to control how many sweets i can have, but i don't really know how without it becoming another eating disorder.

Try taking an extra snack to eat before you come home from school.  That may help you to not feel as much like eating.  Another method is making yourself go and buy replacement items for whatever you consumed.  Eventually you realize what a pain it is to be constantly going to the store or writing little IOU notes.  I have a housemate who doesn't mind if I try anything of hers, but I make myself replace anything I eat as soon as possible...I'm far too lazy to do it very often.
