Eating under 1000 calories a day?

Hi!

So my daily goal is to eat 1500 calories a day.  However, I do not eat lunch generally, so it seems that a couple of days a week I eat under 1000 calories in one day.  Is this really bad? I've heard that eating under 1200 calories is not good for you, but I was wondering why exactly that is? What are the dangers, specifically, other than starving! Should I try to eat more? Help!

If your body isn't getting the calories it needs to sustain itself it goes into starvation mode and clings on to the fat you have, for one thing.  Also at <1000 calories per day you probably aren't getting the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that you need to stay healthy.  I often get busy during the day and skip lunch too.  A good way to meet your caloric needs is to supplement your diet with healthy high calorie foods such as natural nut butters, low fat cheeses, or health supplements.  Good luck with your health goals!
