How many servings of vegetables do you eat in an average day?

When you eat veggies, which ones are you choosing?

Do you eat canned veggies? Frozen? Fresh?

Do you count potato chips as a veggie?

Are you doing anything to try to eat MORE veggies every day?

I have atleast 1/2 a cup of tomatoes at lunch and dinner, atleast 1/2 cup of leafy greens (usually collards or spinach, frozen) with my rice at lunch plus another veggie (like today was broccoli), carrots or celery as a snack, and a side dish of some other veggie at dinner. Uh, I don't know how many servings that is...

I stick to frozen, since they're cheap, easy to store (even after opened) and they have no added sodium.

I have a hard time counting potato chips as a food, unless they're home made with real potatoes. :)

My mom does the shopping, but if I could, I'd have a veggie wonder land in my freezer.
I just try to get at least five servings a day, like "they" recommend.  I eat at least 1/2 a banana every day, and then I load up on veggies at dinner.  I like vegetarian dishes that include lots of different veggies thrown in together.  I usually buy fresh, sometimes frozen, but not canned, because canned is always loaded with sodium.  I don't count potato chips as a veggie, but I DO count potatoes (some people don't.)  They're very good for you and loaded with vitamins and fiber.  Why not count them?  (Stupid Dr. Atkins, turning everyone against potatoes...)

How many servings of vegetables do you eat in an average day?

Somewhere between 5-10

When you eat veggies, which ones are you choosing?

Lettuce, carrots, sweet potatoes, bean sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, squash, peas, green beans, snow pea pods, bok choy, mushrooms, eggplant, artichoke, water chestnuts, spinach, kale. Whatever I can get my hands on.

Do you eat canned veggies? Frozen? Fresh?

Fresh whenever possible, almost never frozen, and only the no salt added cans.

Do you count potato chips as a veggie?

I don't.

Are you doing anything to try to eat MORE veggies every day?

I really can't afford to. I eat a lot as it is, and I need to make sure I have room in my stomach for protein.

I love potato chips, but they're not worth the calories they add up to, so I don't eat them.

I only buy fresh veggies because they're cheap and I like seeing that they're in good shape.  Recently I've been eating a lot of collard greens, sauteed with olive oil.  Also I like asparagus because they're so easy to cook - 4 min in the microwave on a plate with some water.

I've been thinking of ways to get more in.  I eat plenty of fruit, but I really only eat veggies at dinner, so I'm probably not getting enough servings.  I do really like sweet potatoes, so maybe I should eat those more often.

Well, i usually eat my veggies at dinner/lunch. i eat carrots( A LOT!) and cucumber, green beans and others.

Well, my parents do the cooking,Wink but they always use fresh vegatables, very few times they use frozen.

I definately don't count potato chips as a veggie. But, plain potatoes are good for you.

No, i'm not tring to do more to eat more vegatables each day.Sadly Frown Mostly because i can't really cook.

Does anyone recommend any different kinds of veggies? It's hard for me to find veggies I really like. I like sweet potatoes (a lot!), dill grean beans (you eat em cold), salad, lettuce, carrots, corn on the cob, baked beans, broccoli is ok if cooked right, onions, tomatoes, zucchini, squash, and reg potatoes.... any suggestions? I hate cucumbers, beets, black beans, asparagus, peas, spinach, kale, cauliflower, etc.
I get 10+ servings of veggies a day!
I eat veggies @ dinner time, if I ate them at lunch I probably would get a bit...gassy! haha!
The veggies I eat mostly:- Bell Peppers- Spinach- Green Beans- Eggplant- Zucchini- Tomatoes (and paste)- Onions- Leeks- Artichoke Hearts
I eat frozen, canned & fresh veggies!! :)
I dont do anything specifically to eat MORE veggies, I just eat a lot of them because I restrict a lot of other food categories from my diet!
ker3409,  how about green pepper for salads and sandwiches?  Not to mention red, yellow, and orange pepper.   I also regularly add radishes and celery to my salad.

As for how many servings of veggies I eat per day, I'd be afraid to count -- I once totaled up the grams of protein I eat and it was just barely over the minimum recommended.  I eat one good-sized salad per day and also add a few veggies to my lunch sandwiches.

I have to tell you all, I doubt if I get 2 servings of veggies a day.  I am trying to find ways to combat this.  I read the posting regarding celery and carrots for snacks, so I am going to try that, even though I hate celery.  Because I am a "functional eater" I can hardly find time to eat 1 well balanced meal, yet alone count my servings of veggies and fruit in a day.  Any suggestions?

 Does fruit count?

I probably get about 10 odd servings a day.  I have a banana with breakfast everyday and either shrooms and onions (if it's an egg white day) or berries (if it's an oatmeal day) then I have carrots as a snack, perhaps a plum or apple, then tomato, cuke, peppers and beans at lunch, and an broccoli, cauliflower and assorted other veggies at dinner (brussel sprouts - which I prefer frozen, savoy cabbage, green beans, Rutabaga, Squash, peas, zuccini, soya beans, chick peas etc).  I prefer fresh in most instances and don't count potatoes as a veg but as a starch/carb.

i don't count potatoe chips as a veggie!! or evan baked potatoes, they have so much starch i consider them a grain. same with corn and popcorn.

I usually have 2 servings of fruit at breakfast, 2-3 veggies at lunch, more if i'm having a salad, and 2-3 at lunch. I try to make half my plate/bowl veggies/fruit. I usually have melon for a  snack. so i get about 7 servings.

unless it's broccoli or green beans.. i can fill up on a whole bowl of those i love em soo much. I usually make 2 meals worth intending to take some for lunch, but ending up eating both servings Tongue out. you can never get too many veggies

berrywrap12 .... if you really don't like veggies, you might just do what my DH does .... he drinks V-8 juice!

And now I have him adding fresh spinach to his sandwiches!!

And he will eat grape tomatoes with his sandwich if I sneak them onto his plate!!

You could always try carrot sticks and a low-calorie dressing or dip, too.

At least 5 or 6 sometimes more.

Usually what is in season, really enjoy fresh brussell sprouts right now. But I always love that ever popular veggie/fruit the tomato.

No, I don't count potato chips as a veggie.

If they are around I will eat them.

How many servings of vegetables do you eat in an average day?

->probably 5-6 servings at least. I try to have 1-2 salads per day, and if I'm not having one I cook something that has lots of veggies

When you eat veggies, which ones are you choosing?

-> my fridge is always stocked with romane lettuce, spinach, corn, carrots+pea mix, salsa, sweet bell peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, zucchini, and eggplant. The rest of the veggies depends on my wallet and what looks good at the market

Do you eat canned veggies? Frozen? Fresh?

-> fresh > frozen > canned for preference, although sometimes I can't win against my wallet. Corn and the carrot/pea mix I prefer frozen though, since it's so easy to store and the sodium content isn't crazy like some of the canned stuff.

Do you count potato chips as a veggie?

-> would be nice if i could lol. But unless it's the home made potato chips I would have to say no.

Are you doing anything to try to eat MORE veggies every day?

-> Instead of salad dressing, I mix salsa + fat free sour cream + chili powder to make my own dressing. The salsa that I make is mainly colored sweet peppers so I get a mix of vitamins there. Also I put in 1-2 spoonfuls of the corn / carrot+pea mixes for an extra serving or 2. I substitute spinach for a lot of places where I use lettuce only (like sandwiches and salads). Whenever I make a dish with meat or fish, I put in more veggies and give a portion of the meat/fish to my dog so I still have the flavor of it but I'm eating more greens in the end. Plus it doesn't make me feel guilty while the dog stares and stares at me when I'm eating >_>;

I started drinking V8 juice, too.  It's not the best-tasting, but 8 oz = 2 servings of vegetables (at least that's the claim on the bottle!) I now understand why people put vodka and a celery stick in it!

I also pack celery stix and carrots with my lunch, and I like to make salads with spinach leaves with my dinner.  I do eat more frozen vegetables, because as one poster said, they are easier to store and stay good longer.  I love baked sweet potatoes too.

I was at a restaurant once where they served homeade sweet potato - potato chips! I did have some and just for that day counted them as a vegetable serving!

I'm born in a country where eating vegetables and fruit is considered normal.

I eat probably more than 10 oz a day, and I also eat one or two fruits. I like the vegetables crunchy, not overcooked. And yes, variation! Every day different choices.

Potato chips are sodium rich snacks, not vegetables.

i always have vegetables with my dinner. i include raw ones in my salad (zucchini, tomato, baby carrots, mushrooms, green bell pepper) and then have a frozen veggie (broccoli, cauliflower, sugar snap peas, peas and carrots) on the side. i now stay far away from canned veggies. disgusting.
