Eating after a workout.

Quote  |  Reply
OK well ever since I knew of exercising I had it engraved in my head that youre supposed to workout and that if u have anything at all enter your mouth that u totally ruined your workout. Well today I went to the gym with a friend of mine. I have to say the first time in like years. Anyways I even did a lil extra today by walking a mile more and doin some other exercise eqipment. Ok well every Sunday it is a family ritual to make BBQ. Ok well I came home and ate.  I had a plate of BBQ. I i did avoid the PInto beans and tortillas.  Oh ya and I had not eaten all day. Just a beef jerky, cheese, and vienna weiners. Anyyways what do yall thinkk bout the eating after a workout.

Thanks:))

yes, you should eat after a workout - preferably within thirty minutes.

did you eat anything other than protein today?  beef jerky, cheese, vienna weiners, and bbq is not exactly balanced, you know?
I know its not balanced but Im trying to minimize my eating and catch my cals and carbs. I cant just not watch my carbs.  Anyways but u know what after I counted all the cals in the vienna weiners, cheeze, beef jerky..i only had like 600 cals left for dinner.  Anyways and the carbs were very minimal in the things that I did eat.  What u think??
i think you're really missing the point of this site.  you need to eat a range of foods, and you need to get good quality carbs and proteins.  some veggies would be nice, too.

eating after a workout is good.  feeding yourself a diet tailor-made for heart disease is not.
im sorry dude. but i gotta agree with marimck

we gotta eat, that's right. but we gotta eat RIGHT! ;p

to answer your question, its totally best to eat within 30 mins of excersise!  it helps with the muscle toning and its when your metobolism is at is highest!

eat more balanced tho - you will find it easier to keep weight off in the long run!

good luck
Someone else just posted this article.  Read it, it explaines just what you were asking about.

Read This
Think you are kind of confused about carbs and calories, carbs are a macro nuitrient and calories are a measure of the stored energy in food. 600 carbs is 600*4(Calories in each gram of carbohydrates) so that is 2400 calories.

If you are trying to do a high protein, high fat ketogenic diet with 0 carbs that is one thing but it does not sound like that is your goal.  To lose weight its all about the total calories.

You'll end up fat, eating the way you are.  You're more than likely burning muscle and keeping your fat.  Read the article kellygreen posted.  Also, scroll down (may be on next page) and find the one I posted yesterday on calcium.

You need to eat both before AND after a workout.  Use the tools on this site and count calories...make sure you eat all the calories you need in healthy foods - some protein (chicken, fish, eggs and meat), drink 3 glasses of milk a day, some fat and some carbs.  Watch your sodium, and make sure you're getting fiber.
Yeah, you're supposed to eat within 30 minutes - 2 hours of your work out. Because your metabolism has sped up from working out, you're burning calories even at rest; and your body needs to recover and fuel back up. So try a meal that consists of carbs, such as fruit or yogurt.
wait wait. what's wrong with pinto beans?
Eat 15 Minutes after a workout. Anything like a half a banana, fruit drink, orange, oatmeal cookie, etc. This will help in recovery and keep you from the straving .

Try to eat every 3 to 4 hours, small meals. This way you keep your body working. Otherwise, if you wait too long to eat,  a meal (even if it is a good one) will be stored as fat.
Um Okay...some of these responses are wack!

Yes, you need to eat after a workout. Your body is in an ultra-active mode and it needs to be replenished. Your metabolic rate is at its highest right after exercise...and the best way to keep it going is to give it energy which equals = food. :)

If you wait to long to eat your body WILL NOT automatically store your next meal as 'fat'. Our bodies are so much more sophisticated and complex! Sometimes it's okay if we don't eat "every 3-4 hours". Our bodies will not freak out on us. Geez. Food doesn't have to boggle your mind this much. Eat when your body needs food. If you listen to your body your body will have energy and strength.
Somebody explain to me how weiners and beef jerky are healthier than pinto beans?
seriously! what the heck is wrong with pinto beans?
