Eating because you're bored/comfort food. Alternatives...?
I generally eat more than I need to because I'm bored and want some comfort food. Instead of making myself a sandwich or a bowl of cereal, what can I do instead? I tried not doing this, but I can never keep this up for more than a week.
What do you ppl do when you want to eat for fun and taste, but not for hunger? Do you have any things that you think of or do? Techniques that work are what I want to know.

16C is cold? You should come to Canada.

it can be 10C and stormy one day, then 25C and lovely the next xD

Oh my god that is so cold! 4 degrees is the temperature of the inside of my fridge. How do you do anything outside? It doesn't rain too often at the moment here. Its very rare to get anything under 11C in winter.
Thanks to the advice so far ppl. But I'm not to interested in food alternatives or other foods to snack on though.

Well its summer at the moment and its 18C, but it does get up to like 28C on the hottest day of the year!! As for winter we end up wearing hoodies and a thick winter coat, it got down to like -4C last winter, and it snowed (Yay for snow) but my brother locked me out the house and it was soooooooo cold!!
well i have the same problem, but i found that chewing sugar free gum whenever you are bored hungry helps so much! i go through like 7 pieces a day but i've lost weight and i never eat any snacks anymore! :-D

HAHAHAHA. I lived in Edmonton (Alberta, Canada) for a year. Warm in the winter was -10 Celcius. COLD was -40! Now, I'm in New Brunswick and winters are more like -10 or -20. I think. It's "summer" now and hot is 26 Celcius.
Yeah, fellow Aussie here. How crazy was that wind last week?? Anyways, I usually grab a couple of Saladas and tomatoes and put a but of cracked black pepper on the top. That way it's not too bad (no butter!) and I still get that crunchy munchy feeling as well as feeling full. Hope it helps!
First of all, if you are sitting around doing nothing and could be doing something... try to do something to keep your mind busy so you aren't thinking about food. I know... easier said then done, but it really works. If I am out someplace or keeping busy then time flies by and then it is time to eat another meal and not snack!
If you crave something sweet, try to grab some fruit instead, like an apple or some strawberries. It is really low in calories and has the sweet edge to it. If you are dieting, my husband has always suggested eating some sliced tomatos because it will make you feel full and they are hardly any calories.

hahahaha. yeahh i live in the okanagan (british columbia, Canada) and it gets to -20C or lower in the winter. but oddly enough it can get to +40C in the summer. its been really weird lately with all the fires going on, one day its 20 cause its so overcast and smokey and the next its 30.
but about eating when you bored, i can totally relate. it seems whenever im trying to be really good one day and count calories and not binge i end up thinking constantly about food. :S it's like whenever i feel like 'hey maybe i WILL be able to lose weight' i always convince myself that 'hey since im on the right track i can cheat' :/ this cycle sucks cause i always feel guilty and dont know what to do.
GAHHH sdlkfjldksjf. i hate how my mind craves food when i KNOW i dont want it. or need it.
a big glass of cie water fills me up a LOT and then gum next.
If your still hungry, how about a quaker rice cake? tons of flavors, 50 calories. Swiss Miss fat free hot chocolate=50 calories. Fruit Leather, tons of flavors, 45 calories. Any fruit, but I DO know what you eman. a lot of the time I think i'll jsut eat 3 cheez-its and end up eating handful after handful. and fruit doesn't always fill you up. Hummus=50 calories+5 crackers=60 calories=110 calories. It's pretty tasty but cucumbers or zucchini is way less calories and goes good with hummus and is crunchy.
