I know they are going to be voting on the new economic stimulus plan today. (they might have by now) But, does anyone know, in real terms, what is being proposed? How is it supposed to help the citizens?
Original Post by crazineko:At this point, it might just be better to cut everyone in America a check for 15-20 thousand dollars, which would roughly total to 900 billion. Save us the headache.
$900,000,000,000 / 300,000,000 = $3,000
@41-I would gladly spend $3,000 at Target too.

$900,000,000,000 / 300,000,000 = $3,000
300,000,000 includes children and infants
there are aproximately 100 million households in the u.s.
so that's $9000 per household
or, if you used the tax status single, married, head of household etc, then it might vary slightly with married people and head of households getting a bit more than single people
however, economists agree that using the money to fund projects that will put people to work will have a greater positive impact on the economy than just handing out checks (which is exactly what people criticize WELFARE for)
Pfft. Everyone getting a check wouldn't change a thing due to the subsequent inflation.
The administration plans to list all of the spending in the stimulus package on this web site.
I read that the bill is up to 1400 pages in length now. They just need to euthanize this thing and go back to square one.
they keep talking about obama's "huge package"
think they're a little jealous? bit of an inferiority complex?

hee hee. Although I will get lambasted for this because I should be looking at his performance not his ass, still think the Pres is a hottie. ;)
Heard on NPR this morning that due to the rise in unemployment and for the first time on record we are approaching the point where there are more women in the workplace than men.
Now I'm a little conflicted. Lower pay for equal work, or no pay for no work?
Lower pay probably trumps unemployment.
Exactly.
Now if we're paying attention, when they start hiring men back - we can fight for better pay. :)
The Bush Family Recipe for Disaster
- Export millions of jobs to countries with no labor standards
- Import millions of "undocumented workers"
- Funnel the largess of government to wealthy contractors
- Sprinkle in 4 months of extremely high energy prices
- Stir in an international finance-created financial crisis consisting of
- a housing bubble
- a credit card bubble
- a commercial property bubble
- the mother of all bubbles in an unregulated, obscure financial instrument (credit default swaps, derivatives contracts) that no one understands but which amounts to raw gambling

7. Wait for deflation and serve cold.

I didn't read the whole thread so I apologize if this is duplicate, but the two things I care about (and basically the only two things I know about) are a proposed change from a $7,500 tax credit for new home buyers to $15,000 tax credit for all home buyers; and a change so that home loans will have a 4% interest rate. Here's two articles about these items:

Seems like the republican definition of 'bipartisanship' has been strictly limited to 'when we get what we want'.
It's pretty much the same as the democrat definition.
The president is the only person atm trying to get the knuckleheads to work together.
Ive been watching the Senate on Cspan...I have thrown my boots at the TV several times today.
What a pain in the ass
pulling them off
she shoots...(sighs)
fetching them back
tugging them on

note: I am a really aimless boot tosser, would never be able to hit a politician open range.

Good press conference last night. Interesting to see so much face time with the President. It's a novel approach - communication.
