Economic Stimulus Plan

Quote  |  Reply

I know they are going to be voting on the new economic stimulus plan today.  (they might have by now) But, does anyone know, in real terms, what is being proposed? How is it supposed to help the citizens?

agree.

having this much interaction, and in fluent English ... it feels weird after 8 years of ... not

but in a good way

both my senators and my rep are now democrats

this is changed from when i moved to VA and all three were republicans

i don't know if a lot of people feel this way,  but i'm tired of the trickling down

it doesn't work

Heh, Bagga :) Exude on :)

What his demeanor said to me was that this is really pretty serious.

But at some level I still harbor an enormous amount of resentment over corporate America's contribution to this mess.

And am I the only one that thinks it seems rather improbable that GM, for instance, posted a 30% decline for all of last year but 49% just last month alone?

Methinks I smell the acrid aroma of cooked books all throughout Wall Street.

it's possible that you're right

but it's also possible that very few people can qualify for loans to buy cars now

also, you know we under-report our unemployment figures, right?

we also over-state our GDP

take a look at www.shadowstats.com

my point being that people who are losing their job, having their hours cut, or accepting a part time job when they need a full time job also aren't likely to even think about buying a car

Yes I did know about the unemployment figures. Not surprised we over-state the GDP, either.

So, clearly, the book roasting party started in Washington.

i know a lot of things started getting re-formulated and re-calculated under Clinton

and Bush took it to a new extreme -- sometimes just not reporting information or even collecting it at all

Perfect storm of de-regulation, outsourcing and fat war contracts. What is infuriating is how much of this could have been avoided.

if corporations hadn't taken over our government... yes.

Exactly. Hopefully we'll see a reversal of some of it.

Preliminary outline of the Financial Stability plan seems promising. Like the attempt at transparency.

i was just reading about geithner's 'new plan' for the banks and it's going to require more focus than i can presently muster

will try again this afternoon...  :/

I just watched young Skywalker Geithner outline the plan to destroy the Empire's economic Death Star of Doom.

It was a grim reckoning....may the force be with us.

Dang - I will need to find that on youtube.

From the Reuters outline it looks like there will be a websit dedicated to full disclosure. That'll help.

i wonder if it's recovery.gov

that's where they plan to provide all info on how the money in 'obama's package' is spent

the senate is voting on the stimulus package right now

(i think)

no no - it just passed

god bless the moderate republicans.

now the house and senate get to duke it out.

I swear if I see one poster that shows a stack of money headed towards the moon attached to a politician who is in desperate need of a slap upside the head and an econ 101 class talking in sound bites and regurgitated rhetoric I will scream.

I must not watch c-span...my shoe aim has indeed improved greatly and I can't afford to bust my set.

have you thought about getting those foam bricks that are designed for just that purpose?

oh and hang on - i know of something that will amuse you

I finally got a chance to look at what's in that "economic stimulus" package and I can't begin to express my disappointment. I'm not surprised, but I'd stopped following, because I've honestly just given up. They're gonna do what they're gonna do and there's really nothing that can be done about it.

So much wasted money.

i still haven't gotten to see details - but i figured that it would contain some useless stuff

however, it's not in its final version yet - so we'll see what stays and what goes

bagga - thought you'd get a kick out of this

an open letter from the Republican Congressional Leadership:

Dear America,

There has been much confusion about what our position is on the economic stimulus plan now making its way through Congress. Since President Obama made his case yesterday, we would like to make ours now in the interest of equal time. In a nutshell, our plan is streamlined and simple:

First and foremost: lizard marshmallow hat in the wicker basket goes nefarious.

Second: All couch fur in pothole will be goat cheese on a sliding scale. Pearls are carrots drill bit woodpecker equally.

Third: Monkey farts on the naval base gets pitched to solar backgammon limitations. If there are no arias being sung in Poughkeepsie the maple tree gets ranch dressing. Note: Stinky mop excites the trousers.

In the event of a cordless manhole cover, the Easter Bunny gets towel rack plus nuclear pudding.

Above all, lawn chairs will graze on the mixing bowls in toll baskets.

We hope this helps cut through the clutter to give you a better idea of what we as a party stand for---and have to offer the nation---in this most difficult time.

Sincerely,

Your Republican Party Leadership

Thanks nomo I needed that.
