Those with ED: anyone here have a g-tube in the past?

Quote  |  Reply

I had a g-tube due to my anorexia back in 2000.  I had it for several months and then it was removed - unfortunately I talked the doc. into taking it out (it was incredibly painful for me) well before it should have and I ended up losing the weight I'd gained from it very quickly.  Anyhoo, the other day my 5 y.o. daughter was in my room when I was getting ready for work and saw my scars (I also had a j-tube in a different location due to a complication from the surgery for the g tube).  She asked me where I got them.  I simply told her mommy was really sick a long, long time ago but I'm all better now because for the most part I am - I'm 5'4 and 104 but I'm working on getting up to 115.

So, my question is, is there any way to get rid of these scars.  They are such horrible reminders of a time I want to forget.  I can't even think about wearing a 2 piece bathing suit.  Just thought there might be someone else here who's had experience with this.

I use a product called Bio-Oil to reduce my acne scarring. I've also used cocoa butter for it - I know that sort of product is more readily available in more places. I expect either of these would work the same sort of way for a scar as you descibe.

You might want to check out Mederma, it has worked pretty well for a few people I know.

I have a scar as well, but it's on my chest well more so on my front shoulder. (I had a tube surgically inserted into my heart.

Anyway, I've embraced my scar. No it's not the best looking thing ever, but it reminds me everyday where I've been and where I don't want to be ever again.

As far as reducing scars I totally agree with Mederma. It's pretty expensive for a little tube, but it's worth it. I've used it on other scars and after using it for about 2 months or so I could see a lot of improvement.

Congrats on getting yourself healthy once again. :)

If you're willing to splurge, La Mer's The Concentrate drastically faded most of my scars.

Have you looked into laser options?

I'm thinking the topical stuff may not be enough - the g-tube one goes in - my husband jokes that it's my 2nd belly button.  Does anyone know if any of these help a deep scar?

Well you will probably still have some sort of a raised bump, but as far as the pinkish color it should fade within time, but it's going to take a couple of tubes of any medication to help it. If you're looking for serious removal the only thing I could suggest is laser removal surgery.
