What do ED specialists do?

Im being referred to an ED specialist reguarding my bulimia. 

Whats going to happen? What will they talk about? Will they weigh me or is that only for anorexics?

Has seeing specialists helped anyone on here?

I am not sure what the ED specialist will do but odds are that they will speak with you and take a full history.  I would imagine that they may take your vitals as well.  Did you make the appointment yourself? or were you referred?  In order to ease your mind, phone the Dr's office....ask them ahead of time what to expect during your first appointment.  This will set your mind at ease.  Sometimes the unknown makes us uneasy.

I'm seeing a therapist right now that specializes in eating disorders, and she's helped me so much in two sessions that it blows my mind. She didn't weigh me at all. We just sat down and I started talking and talking about my past and how I was feeling these days, she offered some insight and things to think about.

I'm not sure how it would differ from seeing a ED specialist, though.

I agree with patsy - ask your Dr's office what to expect.

I saw an ED specialist with regards to anorexia and yes, I was weighed, but I had a choice if I wanted to see my weight or not. We focused a lot on my past, why I am such a perfectionist and so hard on myself, as well as the time when my ED really developed. We also focused on coping strategies, ways I could not be so triggered in various situations, and also my parents came with me some (even though I was in college at the time) and they were able to better understand my disorder, and thus, how to help me. It was a very positive experience because I didn't feel SO guilty all the time about doing this to myself and my family/friends. I highly recommend going.
