We bought some shelled edamame and the cooking instructions say to boil for 4 minutes and season as desired.
How should we season it?

Healthily?
Spices/herbs - garlic, chilli, ginger
Soy with it would be nice, but high sodium
Maybe a sprinkle of sesame seeds?
Unhealthily?
Herb butter maybe

As you would peas. They are wonderful in salads, used like chickepeas or kidney beans, and they can be added to chili and other bean dishes.
Thanks!
My hubby and I were completely clueless as to what to do with them.

no way man. edemame is good with only one thing: salt.
Seriously, just put on some salt and pop them out of thier shells right into your mouths - your tastebuds will delight!

yes, applejunkie, they are so good as a snack! I love the pretty, light green color too.
Yes, no butter necessary just some good kosher or sea salt, and not even that much, does the trick. They almost taste like nuts, and are totally addictive.
Yeah, applejunkie is right. Boil them with salt in the pot and the edamame will be flavored just right. No need to add anything else, although I've also tasted wine-flavored edamame at Japanese restaurants. They're good served cold, as a snack.
I agree with applejunkie, however akkiya makes a great point. Try using the salt in the boiling water. It will make it more a flavorful end result. If it doesn't feel like it has enough seasoning...just sprinkle a bit on.
A few drops of dark sesame oil after cooking the edamame is awesome too.
You can experiment, of course, but applejunkie is right: salt rocks. I use coarse sea salt, and it's spectacular!!
I like 'em plain, popped from the shell right into your mouth!
They almost taste sweet to me... IDK, they're delicious! Enjoy!

I don't season them at all. I buy the already shelled kind and eat them cold in salad, or as a vegetable. They are such a pretty color!
