edamame
I saw a tub of it in the market. It's 100 calories for 1/2 cup and has an insane amount of protein. It was so beautiful and bright green. I just wanted to know how to prepare it, or should I just eat it like I would beans?
Has anybody mixed it with pasta for carb/fat/protein balance? Because I'm thinking about trying that.

I boil water first and then let it sit for ten minutes with the heat off. I like it with a little bit of butter and salt.
You can just wash it well and munch on it raw.
If they're in the shells, steam them... takes a few minutes (it will tell you on the package).
Let them cool a bit. Toss salt over them (go easy).
Put the shell in your mouth and hold onto the green, like holding the tail of a shrimp. Squeeze the beans out with your lips/teeth. Discard the shell.
Fantastic!

where can you buy it? i have only had it at a japenese restaurant, but i'd like to eat it at home.
At stop and shop near the vegan cheeses and hummus in the produce section. I found it conveniently pre-shelled in a tub.
any health food store in the frozen section (Cascadian Farms); or in the organic frozen section...
if you're looking for edamame in the shells...

I love it BUT...
Every time I eat it, I end up with horrible sharp, stabbing stomach pains... my tummy bloats up... sometimes it lasts for 48 hours.
I get this same problem sometimes with black beans, but not with other beans, and I eat beans a lot... and I drink soy milk every day and tofu doesn't to it to me either...
Never could figure out why this is - would anyone know?

I boil them and eat them whole. It's pretty good with a bit of salt and a spray of I can't believe it's not butter.
Also you can just eat them raw in the pods and all. it's quite good too. :)

jenmcc, some people have a very difficult time digesting certain kinds of beans that are harder than others. Soy beans are especially hard and require a lot of soaking ... this is one reason why they're often processed into more refined products. Black beans are fairly hard too and need to be cooked a longer time than other beans. Some things that can help your body digest hard beans a little better is cooking them with baking soda or asafaetida. A long presoaking makes a big difference too.
I like mine (I use frozen shelled), sauteed in a pan sprayed with non-stick olive oil cooking spray, over medium heat until the skins become wrinkly. I usually had a tiny bit of soy sauce or dark sesame oil too :)
I actually ate some for lunch today. I get the pre-shelled ones at my local asian food market/place and just boil them, and store them in my refigerator. They are a great snack alternative (as opposed to say, chips).
try Trader Joes- they always have them there.
They have them at a restaurant i'm going to. Which would you prefer - chilli or garlic edamame. its my first time to eat them! Which flavour works best.
I want to try this stuff really bad. I look for it in the frozen vegetables section in walmart, but can't find it!
i actually saw it with all the fresh produce in wal mart
In the frozen section in any Food Emporium.
i am in love with edamame - so yummy! i heat mine with a little bit of water in the microwave and add salt
I absolutely LOVE edamame beans. When i go out for sushi for lunch i always have a big bowl of them and by 7 that night my boyfriend's bugging me to make supper cause he's hungry and because of the protien...I'm so full I don't even think about eating. I just buy them in the frozen veggie section and throw them in a microwavable save bowl, rinse it with water leaving them damp and then put plastic wrap on the top of the bowl (not even close to touching the beans) and throw in the mic for 5 mins and throw on a bit of salt afterwards. Be careful because there is EXTREMELY hot steam when you take off the plastic but the water and steam lets the salt stick to them.
I eat roasted edamame a lot for a snack - crunchy like a peanut, while still being healthy and tasty . I buy it already roasted, though.
If you do eat it, avoid eating the pod (unless you really need some fiber, haha).

I went to Walmart last night, and I searched the whole store for them. I looked at every bag in the frozen section, and in the fresh produce. I don't think my Walmart has them. It sucks. I want to try them really bad!
