Does anyone else have problems with edema and/or swelling and pain in your feet?  I just started taking cytomel (10mg) about 3 weeks ago along with synthroid (.88~was on 1.25 for past two years).  I might be premenstrual, but it's hard to tell as my cycle is all whacked.  I also was up on our roof shingling over the weekend and think I overdid it.  My feet hurt so bad last night I had to keep them up or I just wanted to cry if I stood on them.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any tips about swelling/edema.  Anyone heard of spironolactone? Or are over the counter diuretics fine (like Pamprin or MIdol with pamabrom okay?

I have a good bit of edema, but it's from a weak heart. In hot weather my feet swell, but most of the time it's swelling in my hands and fluid in my chest.  I know as soon as the temperatures cool off, my feet will go back to normal.

You need to find out what's causing it and then have a doctor prescribe what you need.  You could try elastic stockings to keep the fluid from settling in your feet and ankles.

Don't mess around with OTC stuff.  If you take a diuretic you'll need a potassium supplement or you'll get sick.

I get it all of the time. It is the worse in the summer months. I do not have any advise to give. I am happy that I joined this group to help me with my weight loss.

I got into big trouble last week with swollen feet and ankles, and a swollen belly to boot (ascites).  I ended up in the hospital for 3 days with congestive heart failure.  It had been a month since I saw the endocrinologist and he ordered tests.  Now my thyroid has gone from acutely overactive to way, way under active.  He tells me that it could have contributed to the edema and ascites.  He took me off tapazole and ordered a 1 month check up.

He says that it's either my hyperthyroidism has gone into remission and I've gone the other way, or I was taking too much tapazole.  In the first instance, I'll have to take synthetic thyroid meds.  In the second, it might correct itself as the tapazole wears off.

It's only been 4 days off the tapazole and I can see a difference.  I've ordered compression stockings because I'm told it will help keep my feet from swelling.  They were so bad I couldn't get shoes on.  I dropped 12 pounds of fluid in 3 days in the hospital!!!

The cardiologist (two of them) say my heart is getting stronger, so I'm thinking it's thyroid.  Time will tell.

Yes, my feet and ankles swell up all the time.  I just consider it an "old age" thing since it just started happening in my 40's.  My friends have it too and they're not overweight at all.  I am "mildly overweight" according to this site. :)

low salt diet ! i lost 10% of body weight in 2 weeks and all swelling feet and hands eyes disappeared

Any suggestions for low sodium foods? I'm always trying to stay below 2500 mg/day and struggle with it.  Any help support would be greatly appreciated! :)
