Let me start out by saying, I have no problem with anyone being religious, believing in god, or anything like that. I don't know how I feel about evolution, I really have my own personal beliefs. It's fine with me, but I could not believe any of it for all the money in the world.

Alright, today at work ( I work at a grocery store where ALOT of old people shop) an older lady came up to me and asked if I prayed today.

"um no?"

Then asked if I believe in god.

"nope"

Then acted completely shocked out of her mind. Like she has never seen anyone ever that doesn't believe in god.

She then told me to wait while she goes to her car to give me her bible to read.

I said, "No thanks, I dont read that, I never will ever again"

She goes on. and on and on. About what will happen to me if I dont find god.

I tried politely multiple times to leave the conversation but she kept following me around!

Finally I said " I apologize, but this is none of your business, I do not want your bible, I don't want ANYTHING to do with it and I think that God is absolutely ridiculous, Please leave me alone"

THEN she went and talked to my supervisor about it.

I know I was at work, and I was not rude to her at all, but seriously I don't want people talking to me about religion! It's totally inconsiderite.

Agreed?

Disagreed?

i'll take a business with an overt christian agenda over one where it's hidden and secret.  i teach at sylvan learning center, and every once in a while i get the feeling that the teaching materials are subtly pushing jesus.  it also seems like a bizarre proportion of clients are particularly zealous.  some of the kids preach!  makes me think there's some conspiracy i don't know about.

Interesting grocery store!  Which one is it - can you say?  K-mart is kinda like that so I tended not to shop there (but they went out of business in my area anyway, LOL)

One of the companies I contract whose top "Corporate Objective" is to "Honor God in all we do."  I found this rather bizarre to be in your corporate objectives, but to each his own, I guess.  I certainly don't dispute the right of a company to put whatever they want in their corporate objectives, but I would never work for that company for that reason alone!  I have no idea if they "require" their employees to be of a specific religion, but that would be interesting if they did, to say the least.

Congratulations Bonita!!! You win a prize!!! :)

agreed. i'm a christian, but i HATE having that title, because a lot of christians, or "christians", try to do what you said, shove their beliefs down your throats. not all christians are that ridiculous as that lady was though.

So you don't believe in GOD? I bet you call on him when your car breaks down or if you break up with your partner?  Why is it that people call on God, the one they don't believe in when something bad happens? Ever think of that?

Of course, our God is a FORGIVING GOD and he will be there in his time. That even means for christians too that believe in him.  He doesn't always give the positive answer right away.  Sometimes, you have to wait.

I hope you see the light before it becomes too late. And remember like the previous person said, not all people who believe in God are fanatics about it that crucify you.  But you will be in my prayers.

Take care and God Bless

I haven't seen a post from schnooder in ages. Not since she said she was going to stop posting... I kind of miss her :\

never once have i "called on god."

at age 8, i declared that i don't believe in a god (or multiple gods), and it's never changed.

Bit of an interesting Wikipedia article here about "Atheists in Foxholes" that 1heavenlybody's post made me think of.

Haven't broken up with anyone in a very long time, and when my car breaks down, I first call my husband, then I call a tow truck.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA. That's funny. If someone doesn't believe in God they sure as hell aren't going to call on him when they get into a bad situation.

Ali, that's just a religionist's way of saying "atheists really do believe in God, but they don't want to admit it."  You see, we're really in a state of self delusion.

Makes as much sense as any of their other arguments against atheism, in that it doesn't.

i most certainly don't call on "God" when something bad happens...

i might ponder why the universe is trying to screw me, but i don't call out to some big man in the sky that i don't believe in.

oh, and saying "oh my GOD i can't believe this f-ing piece of crap broke down again!" doesnt count as "calling on god" IMO. but if that's what you meant heavenlybody, then guilty as charged i suppose...

C'mon, just admit it, you know you believe...

So you don't believe in ZEUS? I bet you call on him when your car breaks down or if you break up with your partner?  Why is it that people call on Zeus, the one they don't believe in when something bad happens? Ever think of that?

Of course, our Zeus is a FORGIVING GOD and he will be there in his time. That even means for ones that believe in him.  He doesn't always give the positive answer right away.  Sometimes, you have to wait.

Heh heh, Jules, I misread your post and thought it said you called out to god when someone was screwing you.  "oh God!  Oh God!"  :)

Even though that isn't what you said, I think that's pretty common.  I doubt it indictates any particular belief system.

lmao jules!!

Years ago in another forum, a religionist smugly asked when atheists were going to stop using US currency in protest.  "Huh?" I asked.  You see, by using currency with "In God We Trust" on it, we are subconsciously expressing our belief in, or supporting the idea of, "God."  Yeah - they really posted that.

I immediately asked when they were going to push to rename all the days of the week.  I didn't get a response.

What's really fun is if you start pointing out how all of their "sacred" christian traditions around the holidays have their origins in pagan practice, like the egg & white rabbit at easter, the tree at christmas, the date of christmas moved to be close to winter solstice. It's fun to watch them squirm.
