Let me start out by saying, I have no problem with anyone being religious, believing in god, or anything like that. I don't know how I feel about evolution, I really have my own personal beliefs. It's fine with me, but I could not believe any of it for all the money in the world.

Alright, today at work ( I work at a grocery store where ALOT of old people shop) an older lady came up to me and asked if I prayed today.

"um no?"

Then asked if I believe in god.

"nope"

Then acted completely shocked out of her mind. Like she has never seen anyone ever that doesn't believe in god.

She then told me to wait while she goes to her car to give me her bible to read.

I said, "No thanks, I dont read that, I never will ever again"

She goes on. and on and on. About what will happen to me if I dont find god.

I tried politely multiple times to leave the conversation but she kept following me around!

Finally I said " I apologize, but this is none of your business, I do not want your bible, I don't want ANYTHING to do with it and I think that God is absolutely ridiculous, Please leave me alone"

THEN she went and talked to my supervisor about it.

I know I was at work, and I was not rude to her at all, but seriously I don't want people talking to me about religion! It's totally inconsiderite.

Agreed?

Disagreed?

I think alot here are getting the wrong idea about christians. Have you ever considered of where it comes from? I believe it comes from a loving place in their hearts that they feel compelled to share. I mean if you discovered something great that really helped you out wouldnt you want to share it with the world?? Ok for instance most of us are here because we want to lose weight. What if you discovered something maybe some food that you found out that if you ate once a day or something you would lose ten pounds every week with no negative side effects. Tell me you wouldnt want to tell the whole world?!! You would be so happy you couldnt stop talking about it. It would be the topic of conversation all day. I think its the same thing with Christians. They have discovered something amazing that they have been missing their whole lives and they just want to share it with the world and because its coming from a loving heart like I said in the begining they just want you to also discover it for yourself. I dont think its necessarily to harass you or make you feel uncomfortable.  I seriously dont think that is it. I dont think that the way that lady went about it was appropriate but maybe we just need to think about where its coming from and not interpret it in a way that probably wasnt intended.

I agree that this lady was harassing you and I really hope that you didn't get into trouble at work because of HER behavior. It was not appropriate for her to bring it up in the first place, or to follow you around, or to insist on giving you a bible. And no one should be penalized at work for their beliefs whatever they are.

I have always thought it is inappropriate to push religious ideas onto other people. To bring it up once is fine, in the proper social setting. But if the other person does not respond with interest, I think the subject should be dropped.

Instead, as you have found out, some people feel obliged to continue the discussion and attempt to make you see things their way. I feel that this is a total invasion of my privacy. And I don't understand why so many people think that THEIR way is the only right way, and that anything different is going to send you to hell or whatever.

What I believe is no one's business but mine. I will not make you listen to my thoughts on the subject, so don't force me to hear yours. You are welcome to believe whatever you wish, as long as it does not infringe on my safety or freedom of thought.

Ok, here are my predictions:

In my lifetime, there will be no coming of Christ

In 2008, a country will suffer from a natural disaster- thousands will die

In my lifetime there will be no world peace/ nor will world hunger be resolved

Somewhere in the world a war will break out in 2008

In my lifetime, flying cars will not be the norm

A computer virus will be invented that will devastate millions of computers

An anti virus will be invented that can protect you from the virus above

Ipods will be replaced by a much better version- causing apple ipods to become nothing but a memory.

Ok, I can go on and on.

If all my above predictions come true, you may indeed worship me as a God- and I have no problems with graven images, as long as they make me look 50 lb lighter :)

 LMAO... Nice one wierdkitty!

Just to ram the point home; anyone can make vague predictions, people only tend to remember the ones that come true.. not the hundreds of predictions that are wrong.

Okay, I guess I can't let it go....

Any book could be "interpreted" lots of different ways.. we used to do this as an exercise in English Literature.. you can look for and find "meanings" in lots of different ways.

I don't think that the bible or any religious book should be taken literally.. they were written by people of faith.. not scientists and were for the most part originally written in a language other than English. So you are going by the translator's version of an idea.

Seriously, do all the christians here wash their visitors feet when they enter their homes? probably not.

Do they also abstain from pork and all shell fish and any fish that does not have fins and scales or meat from animals with cloven hooves? I doubt it.

Do the "creationists" simply ignore the existance of dinosaurs and fossils?

Do they really believe that Abraham lived until he was over 500 years old?

I believe it comes from a loving place in their hearts that they feel compelled to share. I mean if you discovered something great that really helped you out wouldnt you want to share it with the world??

That still doesn't give anyone the right to force their beliefs on others. And I include missionaries in that statement as well.

Good Lord!  This thread has been dead for months!  Why won't it stay that way?

Schnooder doesn't even post here anymore.

Threads never die - they just go into hibernation.

Agreed.
It's rude to try and inforce ones beliefs on another.

At least if threads never die, we don't have to worry about if they go to heaven or hell...

*rides in on a dinosaur*

*blesses thread with holy marinara*

in the name of the FSM, i declare this thread dead.

ramen.

I have the deepest respect for Pastafarians, but isn't using the FSM to forcibly shut down a thread kind of like, um, forcing beliefs on other people?

(cackles as zombie thread keeps lumbering on ...)
