Let me start out by saying, I have no problem with anyone being religious, believing in god, or anything like that. I don't know how I feel about evolution, I really have my own personal beliefs. It's fine with me, but I could not believe any of it for all the money in the world.

Alright, today at work ( I work at a grocery store where ALOT of old people shop) an older lady came up to me and asked if I prayed today.

"um no?"

Then asked if I believe in god.

"nope"

Then acted completely shocked out of her mind. Like she has never seen anyone ever that doesn't believe in god.

She then told me to wait while she goes to her car to give me her bible to read.

I said, "No thanks, I dont read that, I never will ever again"

She goes on. and on and on. About what will happen to me if I dont find god.

I tried politely multiple times to leave the conversation but she kept following me around!

Finally I said " I apologize, but this is none of your business, I do not want your bible, I don't want ANYTHING to do with it and I think that God is absolutely ridiculous, Please leave me alone"

THEN she went and talked to my supervisor about it.

I know I was at work, and I was not rude to her at all, but seriously I don't want people talking to me about religion! It's totally inconsiderite.

Agreed?

Disagreed?

And for those that don't want to hear any of this, I am not trying to peach to you just stick up for Christians. We get a bad rap for the many zealots that stand out. Everything in this post in based on my beliefs and is not in anyway meant to offend those that do not believe as I do.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your viewpoint, and I am not going to slam you for it. I will tell you this, there is no reason to be considerate to someone who randomly approaches me about something so personal. No reason at all. Would you be considerate to someone who walked up to you and wanted to know personal intricacies of your sex life? I mean I really like sex, I think everyone should like sex. I mean you in the general "you", because I really didn't want to sound like I'm b*tching you out.

I know some people would love nothing more than to share their sex lives with strangers, but that's what I could come up with for an analogy .

That is the one beef I have about Christianity. That it TELLS you to go spread the true word and save people, or whatever. Well you know, that's great for Christians. But it really aggravates me that Christians want full respect for their religion but they refuse to respect other people's. The fact that you are a Christian means that you believe Christianity is the only viable religion.

And it doesn't even matter to me what else Christians believe. That one thing turns me off to the whole lot of you.

Non Christians are not people to be pitied, looked down upon, or saved from themselves, dammit.

I'm Jewish. Frankly, the branches of my family that are Christian sound like brain-washed children whenever the religion topic comes up. I like them and I love them as people, but as for their (wacky to me) beliefs, I pass.

I once saw an interview of former first ladies who were asked what were the percs of being in the Whitehouse.  Barbara Bush said it was things like being able to call Billy Graham personally to settle a family argument about whether or not non Christians can get into heaven.

Know what Mr Graham said?  He said "Don't try to guess what God intends."

I wish all Christians would heed those words.

"Not everyone on this forum has a soul, people that can't commune with god are disadvantaged, and I shouldn't say I believe in god I should say I know god, not everyone should love jesus because he didn't die for Muslims sins or Hindus sins he died for my sins so that I can sin and still be holy that kind of sacrifice deserves acknowledgment, people don't realize their evil being mean isnt enough you can just tell if someone is evil"

Why don't you take an English class? RUNNNNNN ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

"he died for my sins" --Wow, well aren't you selfish!

Oh, and aren't you suppose to be capitalizing 'God' 'Jesus' and 'He'?

Whats wrong with my grammar?  I dont spell name in capitols and neither did e.e ****, and I feel really awful today because I didn't go to communion this month so please enough with all the hate speech, and I'm not catholic and I don't listen to the pope, a modern progressive church isnt going to solve anything, we should take the church back 2000 years before it became clouded with secular concepts. and I'm not so skinny its only because I'm lying down!

hey it sounds like many of the people that live in this heckvill but they can be entertaining at times but when they find someone that is of another veriety other than christianity (say a buddist) they go on rants of how wrong that person is and yet when someone does this to them they explode (cry ALOT or violently protest)

so yes religion is something best lift to one's self!

It's one thing to criticize people for unsolicited religious recruiting. One postere here (not Spirochete) slammed ALL mormons as "pathetic" because they all go on a mission year. There's more to it than just door-to-door soliciting. If they had only criticized that aspect of recruiting, it wouldn't have been a problem. There are mormons posting here. Criticize the behavior, not the whole group.

[edit: I had originally attributed remarks to spirochete that were NOT his by mistake.]

I respect that part of Christianity means spreading the Gospel, and that many Christians are honestly concerned about the state of my soul. What I wish more of them would realize is that preaching to me out of the blue only pushes me away.  In a world full of hypocrites, a person's action is the only message that counts.  Live what you believe, and when I ask you what the secret to your happiness, good marriage, great kids, whatever is, then share with me the strength you find in Christ.  That, folks, makes an impact.

Although in all honesty, not on me since I wouldn't touch organised religion with a 10-foot pole.  Been there, done that, scarred for life. ;)

Boy she wouldn't let up huh? I hate that. NO means no. You were at work she should have left you alone, Going to your boss is way out of line.

I started a sh*storm of a thread about door to door Mormons in my area a while back. There is really nothing more I hate then having someone blabbing about their religion to me. It's rude, obnoxious, selfish and plain idiotic. People are actually sympathetic to this; it's befuddling.

On an unrelated note, I was buying stamps at the grocery store. The cashier looked really apologetic and said "We only have Christmas stamps, is that ok?" Now that's what I'm talking about! Yes that's fine, and thank you for asking. Someone gets it.

Some days I wish religious debates were banned because all you're going to do is offend someone or be offended.  Sure the debates itself basically state we're not free to practice our own religion because our religion is either incorrect or stupid, but at least we still have our damned freedom of speech.  Even though we have to fight for it.

Please accept my humblest apologies.  I confused you with another poster "carleyrapp" who made derogatory blanket attacks on LDS missionaries in this thread:

I looked at your thread, and have no problem with what you said.

I'm going to edit my post now...

 No problem, we're all good

I think my mind is going to explode with all of these blanket statements.  And schnooder, kudos for not slapping the woman down. That's just not right.

I dont think you did very wrong, however less bluntness could probably helped against her talking to your supervisor, but then again i wasnt there, I didnt hear what she said.

I dont belive in god, however if someone really wants to talk to me about it im willing to listen. I myself love what religion does to alot of people, make them happy, give em purpose, have reason to live or whatever when they might have been feeling lonely/lost before. I'm all for good effects! :) now not saying every religious person is happy and all that, but maybe a bit more happy then without it?

Simply if someone offers me a bible I tell them that I already have one and I dont want to take one away that might help someone who doesnt already have one, they understand usually and its not a lie, i have a bible.. somewhere? collecting dust? which btw i read it. I'm very open minded but so far nothings changed my view :)

Anyway, hopefully your supervisor isnt a jerk and is understanding! :)

The woman asked a clerk in a store (that's right, isn't it?) two very intrusive questions that were about things that were none of her business and had nothing to do with the transaction, and schnooder answered them honestly and matter-of-factly, and then the woman went ape because someone dared not live as she does. These topics are not appropriate as small-talk banter with strangers you meet on the street. How impertinent!

As for the supervisor, he had better be understanding, because the customer was acting inappropriately and rudely by haranguing a clerk with a religious spiel, when she should have moved on and let other customers be served!

I didnt see in her posts where she mentioned she was actually a clerk, only that she works at a grocery store which yeah if someone is a clerk I can completly see where that would be a major issue. Especially for the customers behind waiting in line. Still I wasnt saying she was wrong but bluntly saying to a consumer that

"I think that God is absolutely ridiculous, Please leave me alone"

is a bit much to say to a customer. Even though I can understand it aswell since im customer support on phones all day I know that they will go waaaay beond what your supposed to be talking about.

Perhaps what some people see as appropriate some people dont, I know for a fact some people dont see it as appropriate to start a conversation with some people in the streets at all, while some people find it to be good that we try to speak to strangers.

I belive most supervisors would be fine aswell, while I bet you some has been brainwashed with too much "Customer is always right" tapes.

Her response was,I think, unnecessarily blunt. I,however, don't condone religion being pushed on anyone. Regarding evolution--if we all are descendants of Adam and Eve,as many believe, why don't we all have identical DNA????
You don't have identical DNA to your siblings...
Well, unless you're identical twins.

You also don't have identical DNA to either of your parents.

The only thing with identical DNA would be your clone. Not even sure identical twins have exactly the same DNA, just enough that they look.. identical. Interesting point, though.
