EDNOS, Anorexia, Depression or Just a fast metabolism?
I have/had an eating disorder for about 2 years im a male
5'8 136lbs 18 YEARS OLD.
I use to stop eating for days and had an intake to my knowledge was about 200-500 at its worst stage...It happened when I tried to switch over to some "healthier eating habbits" I stopped eating soda candy then bread I WAS (184LBS)...and only drank water (still to this day)...It began torward the end of 2007 and kinda got to its worst point into the end of 2008(between 2007 and 2008 I would eat one meal aday of whatever my mom cooked at this point I weighed 154LBS)...Torward the end of 2008 I suddenly started to get massive craving for cookies/any kind of pastries, chocolate, hard candy I weight 136LBS...but I still restricted...then 2009 came and I ended up in the ER after a week of only eating beets which was about 2 months ago (February 09)...From february till now ive been eating "regular meals" (The Trip to the ER scared the **** out of me I ended up palpitions tachycardia,I was malnurished I couldnt walk right, felt like I was drunk and they had to give me a shot of a vitamin supplement)...well my question is this since 2 months ago ive been eating between 1350 - 1900 calories a day and sometimes I binge on a total of 4500 calories including daily requirement which would be 4500 - 1680 I calculate my CALORIES PER WEEK AND IT COMES TO A TOTAL OF 11,760 - 12,500...Why Havent I gained Any Weight Im Still At 136 Pounds? *I eat fruits, vegetables some canned tuna, Oatmeal 2 servings every morning topped with brown sugar and sometimes PJ and Nutella, sometimes a chocolate bar at night or when I binge on whole bag of 23 (there like these snicker things each has 60 calories)..........I havent gained any weight since I started eating like this I drink water too 3.5 Liters through out the day?...Thanks
Let me first start off by saying that you are not alone. There are plenty of males out there with some sort of eating disorder. I only say this because it was hard for me to seek help when I realized that I had a problem... Anyways, I too am battling this beast of anorexia. I am 21 years old, 5'5 and currently weigh 125lbs, at my worst I weighed 105lbs. I too had a breif scare which started my recovery.
But to your question. I am no medical professional so this is just strictly advice from a regular joe point of view. GIVE YOUR WEIGHT GAIN TIME. Mine seemed to take for every too, then in one week I went up 14lbs. Make sure you are getting enough good fats and protein in your diet. Try nuts like almonds pistachios etc. Also peanut butter is your friend. I eat a ton of it all the time. I love the stuff. As for the chocolate, I don't really like the taste of plain chocolate, I know I'm some kind of freak, but I sometimes mix it into a protein shake or on a PB sandwich. That is another thing, I found it hard to increase my calories and not feel bloated all the time so I started buying whey protein mix and mixing it with milk.
This is just some suggestions of what I ate to gain, but in all give it time and DO NOT GIVE UP. Strive to be healthy again. Good luck and if you need anything just message me. The best thing we can could is help each other out. Recovery can be a long road and I know I still have far to travel.
1. It could be your fast metobalism, if you have one that is (:
2. Do you exercise at all? I actually started losing weight when I "tried to recover by myself" even though I was eating 3 meals a day + 2 snacks inbetween. And I ate EXTREMELY slowly. Like, an hour+ to finish about 3/4 cup of rice and sides. My parents were not happy. =/ But then I exercised like crazy... well, it wasn't even THAT crazy. Maybe not to me. I used to do 20+ sets of 40 pushups anytime I felt uneasy, which was about every half hour? And I didn't get a lot of sleep because at the time I was working on a yearlong english research paper (8th grade) but yeah...
I was hospitalized too, during spring break of my 8th grade year? It was NOT fun... really painful actually because my blood was so thick or dry and the vessels were very thin, so the doctors had so much trouble drawing my blood. I hope you gain weight soon. At least you didn't get your ED during your growth spurt. I'm quite scared I'll be 5'2" forever.

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
