Just a nice question to gross you guys out this morning! Apologies

I was just wondering tho, a few nights now (not consecutive, but maybe a couple of times over the last 2-3 weeks) I've been waking up in the night being kind of...sweaty. A bit cold and clammy haha! Is this a sign of my metabolism starting to fire up again???Or could it be anything else? If it is my metabolism, does that mean I need to start eating more or less or anything in order to keep up my recovery??? I don't weigh myself because it triggers me so I won't know if I'm gaining or losing :S

Also, since I've been eating more, I feel like I'm on this continuous "high". I'm just happy all the time and feel SO much like my old self before this all happened. I'm getting so much more out of life and I'm loving 2009 so much because it really feels like a fresh start.

But yeah, that last bit was just to share some motivation and joy with other people who are struggling with EDs - getting better is completely worth it. You won't regret taking the step and fighting back - it feels so empowering!

Thanks for any help with regards to the sweating thing tho :P

hey raspberry, i guess one of the first things i thought of, since it is not every night, that maybe on those days you didn't get quite enough food, and are having a low blood sugar.  Cold, clammy is a key sign for hypoglycemia. Maybe if you can check back and see what your intake was on those days, it might click.  I am not saying you are a diabetic- not at all, everyone can have a low sugar reaction. If that is the case, have a small snack before bed.

Either that or you're having a really hot dream! teehee - i am glad that you are feeling great/ happy this year- all the best of luck to you, ok!!

i wake up in cold sweats sometimes, especially when im worrying about something

Night sweats when increasing calories and gaining from an eating disorder is often a sign of your metabolism speeding. Yes, this means you will need to eat more. As for the increase in energy you mention? That'd also be due to the fact you're FEEDING yourself now, and your body is able to fuel itself thanks to it.

nahhh that's just part of refeeding, it's your metabolism waking up.

Thanks for speedy replies. Pretty sure I'm not worrying about anything at the moment given my current state of mind - I did just have some Uni exams but I wasn't particularly bothered by them (very strange for me but hey :P )

That's an interesting point about the hypoglycaemia tho...but I think from when I looked back it seems to be on days where I actually eat more (by loading up on raisins and other dried fruity delights :S

I love feeling alive again! I don't know why I'm so surprised by it because everyone knows you need to eat to LIVE. And that's what I'm doing. I feel like I'm waking up after being in a coma or something for a year...yknow!

Yay for a metabolism :) I'm going to go celebrate with some yoghurt covered raisins :P My new vice mwahahaha. I wonder if you can get an I <3 yoghurt covered raisins teeshirt. Somehow I doubt it :( lol!

Hello raspberry, thats great news re. your road to recovery. I don't have an ED but this happens to me all the time, I always get cold during the night so sleep with a hoody on but sometimes in the morning, I'll wake up freezing and really clammy, can anyone shed any light for me?

Just remember, Raspberry, you will probably need to significantly increase your calories (500 or so). Then again, if I remember right, you're aiming to eat more intuitively so I would simply just make a conscious effort to get more calories or cal dense foods in your day. Yoghurty raisins are one good example of that. :] And you could always paint your own shirt!

Wow lala you remember so much I'm impressed! I'm trying to follow the food pyramid website guidelines with recommended amounts for gaining weight so I'll keep doing that and maybe add in a couple of a food group each day depending on what i feel like munching on :)

Literally I am a dried fruit fiend so I reckon I can easily pack in cals with that. And cos I need more fats as well I will get back munching on the old pecan nuts again :) Nom nom nom nom nom... *munching noises*

I like the crafty idea of making my own shirt...:P Good way to procrastinate and not do my Uni work! I'm always looking for new ways of putting that off haha!

Thanks all who have contributed! CC is awesome :)

ahhh I know, I HATED night sweats too when I was recovering from being underweight a few years ago...I would wake up no joke drenched in sweat (the first time it happened I thought I had peed or something lol)....but it went away...

Yeah, they do eventually ease off - though it is still a sign!

Nuts and dried fruit are a good way to go. You could make your own trail mix with some chocolate chips, yoghurt flakes/bits, cereal (puffed cereal really works quite well for a lighter crunch), nuts and dried fruit. I'd also recommend, if you like ginger, trying crystallised ginger. It's hot and sweet all at once and good for colder days, too. Chocolate is a given, as are denser (eg: Trek, Nak'd, Larabars) fruit and nuts bars, or granola bars (eg: Green and Blacks do a very nice variety; Eat Natural; Dorset Cereals).

As you're going by the Food Pyramid I assume you're taking servings and portions as your guide? Try to look at ratios, too: you want about 55-60% carbs and 10-15% protein, and 30% fats. Possibly even 35% fats because you don't have your period (I remember that, too!)

Also! Where you're focusing on food and quality and not calories so much anymore, but are at Uni - can I make a book recommendation? We got a copy of The Really Useful Ultimate Student Cookbook for my sister when she went to Bath and are getting a copy for me to take away with me this year too because it was the most helpful book we found. There's some reviews here from The Observer on Student Cookbooks, too. The Observer - Money - Student cookbooks

As for the shirt thing - go for a basic Primark or cheap H+M shirt, and then you can usually find fabric paints in any good art supplies shop. Stencils can be made out of any bog standard cardboard. :]

Hi there

I am a healthy weight and have excessive night sweating (it seems random when it happens) but its been happening for the last year.

I just get up in the middle of the night and change my shirt. Hasn't happened in the last week, but just before that it was a few nights straight

do you lose weight when you sweat all night sleeping? lol ;)

Nights sweats could also indicate pregnancy...

I'm pretty sure she's not sexually active, counselork. x:

Just thought I'd add in...while I was on birth control (Yaz) I used to get night sweats every night...so I suppose it could also be an indicator of hormonal changes

Lala, why so sure? Just throwing out a possibility.

Are you on any medication?  I was on cymbalta for fybromyalgia  since Sept.  I was fine until December when I started waking up 3x a nite to change my clothes...they were that soaking wet with sweat. I decided to take myself off of cymbalta..cold turkey...BIG MISTAKE!!  The withdrawal was brutal!! I got thru it with a prescription from my doctor , cause by the time I told him I went off of it it was to late to wean myself off of it....back to your sweats tho....Could also be because you have an infection of some sort.  Night sweats  is your body's way of telling you there may be something wrong.  Could be the start of menopause..but I have no idea of your age so I wont say that if you are way off that mark!! If you do take any medication, I would look that up and see if sweating is a side affect.  Then get blood tests to make sure your okay that way.   Could also be as simple as sleeping under too warm of a blanket, like down.   Anyways...hope that helps.

Counselork: Familiarity with the poster, heh. I could be wrong.

huh??

Haha yeah...Lala's right, not much chance of pregnancy here but thanks for the input conselork :) Not menopause either since I am only 19 :)

I am on medication for depression at the moment, and I have read that antidepressants can cause night sweats. But since I've been on them for a little while now and this effect is a fairly recent one...still plausible tho I suppose.

Oh..lol!!  Nah menopause is not it for you.  Seriously go to your doctor just to make sure you are not fighting an infection.  Simple blood test.  Night sweats dont happen cause your working out.    It could be your antidepressant..I started cymbalta in September and didnt start sweating until end of dec.  If it gets worse tell your doctor who prescribed it to you cause he may have to ween you to a different drug...If it gets intolerable..like mine did..changing clothes all nite long, sleeping on towels cause your bed is damp...whatever you do..dont stop your medication cold turkey like I did..you will go thru hell..atleast with cymbalta I did.  I cant speak for other drugs..but cymbalta was hell.  Good luck.
