I know egg whites are really good for you but it's difficult to seperate them from the yolk. Egg Beaters sound like a good option but do they add chemicals in to substitute for the yolk?
My boyfriend loves eggs and I've somehow gotten him to stop eating them everyday because I'd like him to not have cholesterol through the roof. So I need some help, Egg Beaters a good alternative or no? Thanks in advance.

Unless your BF has a cholesterol problem, there is no need to have him stop eating whole eggs. Your cholesterol won't necessarily go through the roof from eating eggs. The yolk is FULL of nutrients that are so great for your health that are not found in the whites. So if you are that concerned, have him go in for a doctor's checkup just to make sure he doesn't have a cholesterol problem.
Me personally, I would rather take the extra cals when I do have eggs, than some chemically processed "egg substitute". What I do when I have eggs: is have one whole egg and then one white, that way I get more, but less cholesterol (everything in moderation), and less cals.

I don't know if they add any chemicals or not. I eat egg beaters all the time, I like the taste of them. I hope someone can find the answer for this question I would also like to know that info.
Definately. I love them. You can buy a huge case at Costco(costco brand, but WAY better than eggbeaters.) with 6 cartons in it for 6 bucks! I do eggwhites too. They do have a little gadget that you can buy for seperating the yolk from the white! The one downside to the Eggbeaters is they are higher in sodium than regular eggs. It all comes down to personal choice.
I'm not saying he has a problem, but eating 3 eggs everyday isn't good. And from what I understand Egg Beaters aren't really egg substitute, it's just the whites with some added stuff to make up for the yolk. So I'm just wondering if the added stuff out weighs the benefits of egg whites.
I have had no problem eating Egg Beaters, and I am pretty fussy about weird stuff in my food.
I have high cholesterol, which goes up ONLY when I eat foods high in cholesterol, so it stays down when I avoid cholesterol and saturated fats. The Egg Beaters makes a big difference, and it's great for baking and making stuff like French toast.
Egg Beaters is made from eggs, to my knowledge.

I use 100% egg whites from that eggbeaters makes with no added chemicals. It's sheer lazyness and I feel bad for wasting so many egg yolks.
Thanks kristine and blackthorne, that's pretty much what I thought but I wanted to make sure.
egg beaters are great!!
Actually the yolks have alot of the nutrients you want from the eggs. Maybe he could do one whole egg and 2 whites therefore reducing the cholesterol but still getting some of the good vitamins/ minerals froom the yolk?? As far as seperating its easy but messy. I just strain in thru my fingers just crack the egg and then put it in one hand over the fingers that are over a dish. Be sure to wash your hands before and after LOL
I like eggbeaters too though and usually use them more than regular eggs.
I found this for you on their website.
What are Egg Beaters made of?
Egg Beaters are made from real eggs, but only the "best part" ? the whites. Then we add vitamins and other nutrients that would otherwise be lost when the yolk is removed.
Are Egg Beaters as nutritious as whole eggs?
While the traditional whole egg delivers a variety of important nutrients, it also contains 5 grams of fat, 75 calories and a hefty dose of cholesterol ? about 210 milligrams per large egg ? all of which is found in the egg yolk. In contrast, Egg Beaters is actually more nutritious than traditional whole eggs. By eliminating the yolk, all of the fat and cholesterol(except with the Cheese & Chive variety) and more than half of the calories are cut out. In addition, the product contains greater amounts of important vitamins like A, B-12, D and E, as well as other essential nutrients such as folic acid and riboflavin.
Are Egg Beaters the same as egg whites?
No. When you separate the yolk and use just the white of the egg, you lose important nutrients found in the yolk. Egg Beaters adds these nutrients back in, providing an even better nutritional value. Plus, there's no waste from unused and discarded yolks.

OK y'all, I'm confused. I had an egg white omelet this morning and the nutritional grade for (my liquid egg whites from a carton) was a "D" which really bummed me out.
After reading these posts, I compared my egg whites to original eggbeaters and found the egg whites have less of everything (only 1 less protein). ...and the eggbeaters have no nutrtritional grade. So.... should I finish the carton and ignore the nutritional analysis, or feed them to my dog?

I would just finish em. They are healthy for ya, I have found that this site list some stuff as being bad when on another site its an grade A...Hmm.
I don't use Egg Beaters as I preferr pure food without some company adding 'stuff'. I use organic, cage free eggs.
When I separate whites I just use my fingers as the strainer. Crack the egg, put it in fingers, let white drip out, toss yolk. But I think its Pamperd Chef that makes a little strainer/separater you could buy. Or you can crack open the egg, and toss the yolk back and forth from 1/2 a shell to the other a couple of times, letting the white drip out.
Everyone loves my omletts. I use one whole egg (for color) and 2 whites. I don't know how your BF eats his eggs, but if you would feel better, maybe you could supplement his breakfast with something else, to fill him up so he doesn't miss the 3rd egg, (fruit, or whole wheat waffle, multi grain muffin, etc).
