Hello all....I have a simple questions about eggs. I love eating egg whites for breakfast. I usually have two egg whites every morning, fixed one way or another. The problem with this is that this creates two un-used egg yolks. When I put the yolks in the trash, they make my trash stink to high heaven after only a day or so. So this means that I am taking out trash bags that are only half full at best, but usually only a quarter full. I live in the country and have a septic system, so I can not put the yolks down the drain. I was wanting to know if someone had any ideas on different ways of disposing of the yolks, or using them for something else. I do not want to change to egg beaters or other forms of egg substitutes. Occasionally I do eat an egg yolk, but not very often. Any information or ideas would be helpful.

I always wish I knew what to do with those yolks, too. I hate to waste! Sometimes I eat half of it since it is so nutritious.

But why not plop the yolks you're not using into a small baggie, or into some packaging or container you are already throwing out, and instead of throwing it into your kitchen garbage, bring it straight to the outside trash. Just make sure its wrapped up good so animals won't go after it.

If you don't want to eat egg yolks in the morning maybe you could save them in tupperware or a ziplock bag in the fridge.  I have done this before and used them later in the day to make desserts like creme brulee or some richer cakes or cookies that require more yolk than whole eggs.

Also here is a website that tells you how to store them more long term and also gives you ideas of some recipes that you can make to use egg yolks up.

It really is a shame to waste so many good calories.  But that's just my opinion.

Eat the egg yolks because they're really nutritious and contain all the iron and fat in an egg.  They also contain a natural antioxidant 'lecithin'.  The cholesterol in an egg yolk doesn't affect blood-cholesterol and two egg yolks are only adding an extra 100 cals to your breakfast.  If you saved them to use in something else you'd be getting same 100 cals... just delayed.

Stop buying full eggs and instead just buy the egg beaters egg whites

Eat them.

Freeze the leftover yolks in a disposable baggie and save them in the freezer until you are ready to take your trash out. Then just toss them in with the rest of it!

You could cook the yolks, throw them on a frying pan, then throw them out.  They probably won't smell so much that way.

why not flush them down the sink?

Egg yokes can be easily added to a cake or cookie mix, it increases the flavor and nutrition! If you're trying to lose weight then make a desert using the egg yokes and give it away!

I buy egg whites in a carton, like these. I can't imagine cracking an egg & throwing half of it away!

This has to be a US thing, the distrust of the humble egg-yolk.  LOL!  I'm in the UK and remember a breakfast meeting with an American business man way back in the early 90's.  Everyone looked at him a little strangely when he asked the bemused waiter in the hotel restaurant for an egg-white omelette..... we'd never heard of such a thing then and I don't think it's caught on yet either.

Anyone outside the US/North America able to buy egg-whites in a carton?....

I'm with you Jane.  They have them here in Canada but I prefer to have the whole egg (and all the goodness and flavour of the yolk).  I just limit myself to a few a week.

With all due respect, that's just gross!

What's wrong with eating a boiled egg for breakfast? Never heard of eating just the white of an egg!

Wow...I appreciate all of the input on this subject.

I am not a big fan of the yolk. I do eat it occasionally but i love the whites and not the yolk. I do not think I can force myself to eat them all the time.

Diora- With a septic system you are supposed to limit animal fats and products that go down your drains because of the different bacterias and the effects they may have on the septic.

Cellophane- I have seen egg beaters in the stores in my town but I have never seen the  natureegg, I live in a small community but I can ask my grocer about it.

Kimothyshma-Sounds like a good idea.

I never really thought about using them in cookies or cake mixes, I am trying to lose weight (almost to my goal!) and also a diabetic....one of my biggest downfalls is sweets!!!! If i do not have them i can not eat them...that would be hard for me to do.

I do appreciate everyone's input, and I will try some of the different suggestions.
Thanks

Don't get me wrong... I also love eating whole eggs too! I use egg whites in a carton when I want a high protein meal or snack without all the calories & fats of 3 whole eggs. If I make an omelette or scramble, I'll usually use one whole egg + a few egg whites to make it less heavy but still full of protein. I also use solo egg whites in baking, if the recipe calls for just the whites.

I live in Canada so you might not be able to find this particular brand.

Cook them and then go give them to homeless people.

Do you have a pet? I usually just give them to the dog cooked or raw it just depends on my mood or the amount of time I have. He loves them and it keeps his coat super shiny!
