Egg Whites
Possibly the worst food I've ever eaten. But they're part of the meal plan my trainer has given me, so I'm stuck with them for a while.
I really just can't stand the texture of eggs. They're passable if I cook them long enough, but something about it just really grosses me out. Does anyone have some suggestions for making them more edible, without adding calories? I was thinking maybe I'd actually stir them into my oatmeal, maybe that would work?
I have not done this, but many people on CC talk about doing this and enjoy them this way. I just add vegetables and make an omelet.
Had to reply - one of my worst hated foods was egg white. The texture - ugh, gave me goosebumps how it didnt disolve like most foods. I love deviled eggs but you couldnt get me to eat the white and hated when people would put chopped white in the yolky filling.
Now love my egg whites.
For me, it started with adding 1white to 2 eggs for omelets. I started adding more onion, mushroom and green pepper so there war more of them then egg. Then I went to 1white for every whole egg with same omlet which is now more of a scramble as to much vegs to hold together solid.
Now?
Recently bumped from 1 whole egg (80cal) to adding only whites after that at 20cal each though still high protein. So maybe one egg to 3-5 eggs. Yes sometimes 5whites and 1 egg but still good math with only 140 calories which is less than two whole eggs at 160 and still high protein.
Thinking Im ready to go straight to white soon - not on its own, that may be in the future but need the vegs to balance out. Me one day eating only egg whites scrambled - hard to believe from this prior strong hater.
Best wishes and hoping you find yourself also getting an acquired taste - the texture isnt the issue it used to be. I completely relate on the texture thing - I hear you but surprised to admit really isnt an issue anymore.
Not sure if it's a help either but I do them as an omelet also if I have time, and if not I keep a few standby hard boiled eggs on hand. I think if you up the veg in the omelet then the texture of the egg might be more disguised? Not sure. Egg is a texture that never really bugged me so I can't relate better. Hope you're able to find a fix.
Thanks for your tips guys, I'm definately going to try this. Sun123, I get goosebumps when I eat them too lol. The texture reminds me of boogers...as gross as that is to say...
i make 2 pieces of wheat toast... put some cheese and the egg on it and make a egg sandwhich.... or u can use the toast, jelly adn the egg.. i think its good
tasha, i used to do a lot like you (except no jelly) with my eggs, except now I've had cheese and bread removed from my diet, lol. But once I get back to "maintenence" I'll probably give it a try!
I also hate eggs - the texture grosses me out. But the smell and taste is pretty gross to me also. I still manage to get them into the diet though:
I can manage to stomach egg-whites whipped up RAW into a smoothie. They're tasteless, and just make the smoothie a little bit frothy. You'd need to be careful though eating raw egg - there are dangers of salmonella, etc.
You could also make meringue.......? Are you allowed sugar or honey? One meringue is about 3 egg-whites. I don't know if you can make meringue with artificial sweetners - but that would be the ultimate good food for me - protein rich and sugar free. : )
Or even souffle - is this egg-white? (I've never tried this one) apologies if it mixes the yolk as well: would be great if it was just the white: savoury souffle, sweet souffle?
Finally - you could try egg-white powder? I mix this into my oatmeal, I couldn't bear to mix the egg white itself as it would cook and the gross texture would choke me up. I love this - a whopping 20g of protein, right there. I'm also thinking of adding some to yogurt: when I have fruit salad for breakfast I usually add some pro-biotic yogurt. I'll see if egg-white-powder can be hidden in the yogurt.
Good luck.
if you prefer the texture when they are cooked for a long time, you can mix them with cinnamon and/or cocoa powder and some sweetner, whip them with a fork, and put them in the microwave for about 3 minutes OR cook them in a pan like a pancake. you can also add something like wheat bran to make them more grainy, which also mimics the texture of a pancake.

You must make enormous meringues! When I make a batch, I get about 8 meringues per egg white (each one is about the size of a cookie).
My mom always used to put eggs in our soup... I liked it.
I feel the same way about egg whites except I refuse to even find ways that I would actually like them. Ill stick to my whole egg that has tons of nutrients and protien in it.

First, I would be wary of any "meal plan" my "trainer" gave me...They are NOT nutrition experts, in general, unless your trainer also holds a minimum of a bachelors degree in nutrition. Also, it soulds like your plan might be too restrictive to be realistic long term. If you are trying to follow a plan that "forces" you to eat foods you hate and to completely eliminate foods that are nutritous in moderation, then chances are it will be a very short term solution. THIS is exactly why most "diets" don't work. This is also what separates recieving good "nutrition education" from a qualified nutrition professional (aka: a Registered Dietitian) and being handed a "meal plan" from a "trainer".
if you dont like the soft texture, you could try fry the egg whites and scramble them until they're a little dehydrated using pam. the texture comes out more dry.
also try adding salsa or hot sauce like tobasco. usually works for me.
I put tons of broccoli in with the egg whites, the texture isn't so noticable with the broc. I put the broc/eggs in a light wrap and it's really good.
Pureed Pumpkin + Egg Whites + Sugar Substitute + Cinnamon!! Cook it PANCAKE style - It's super delicious - no joke!

This isn't a long term plan, only a few weeks lol. And I looked at the over-all nutrition, and it adds up to be pretty good. I still get all my milk in, all my veggies, protein, even some carbs! I figure if my friend is going to be generous enough to train me for free I'd better do what he says.
I like all these ideas they sound awesome. Meringues sound delicious I've never attempted one before. And I like the idea of adding cinnamon and cocoa powder. And penkiwin, my grandmother always put eggs in my soup when I was little and I thought it was the best.
This is only a short term plan and I'm good enough at watching what I eat not to balloon back up immediately. I'm just a seriously picky eater and I feel bad saying "Oh I don't eat meat or eggs and I don't really like tofu or this or this or this". The list of foods I won't eat somtimes seems longer than the list of foods I do, lol. So I'm just going to choke this stuff down for the sake of not being the biggest pain in the arse on the planet.
Thanks again for all of your suggestions! I'm really about to run to the kitchen and try them right now.
Regardless of everybody who says eat the whole egg and don't waste the yolks, I say (and can find plenty of doctors who agree by the way) eat whole eggs only sparingly but, in general, eat egg whites often.
What to do with egg whites.
- Find a small skillet.
- Put in one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil (120)
- Pour in the egg whites (65)
- Put on some black pepper
- Put on some granulated garlic (5)
- Put in 1 tablespoon of lean bacon bits (30)
- Flip the mixture over
- Put on some more pepper and garlic
- Have a light whole wheat flat bread wrap ready (90)
- Put the egg-white omelet on the whole wheat wrap
- Add 1/4th cup of nonfat cheese (45)
- Add a bit of salsa or picante sauce if desired (5)
- Roll or fold the wrap up
- Enjoy

What to do with the egg yolks? Put them in a balloon and throw it at the neighbor's cat. Just kidding, but some yolks lover out there may think I am serious. Or some cat lover.
Save them in a jar; put it in the refrigerator. If your neighbor does not have to watch his/her cholesterol and weight, then give them to him/her, so he/she can make something delicious such as home made ice cream using real cream or cake using real butter.
or just buy prepackaged eggwhites....
I've tried these ideas and they were lovely. They would be better if I weren't so awful at cooking eggs, lol. And also if I had more time at five in the morning. So I am now getting my eggs made at the cafe at work. The cook there makes the most perfect omletts you've ever seen in your life.
Thanks for all the advice everyone! I'm going to continue practicing these recipes, hopefully I'll get better at them.

I'm sure that you've posted this somewhere, but could you please tell me how much of each you use at a time and the total cals? I live in Canada, and the only pupkin puree I've seen is the pure stuff but it's sold in massive cans. I wonder how long it keeps?
