Too many egg whites?

Quote  |  Reply
Is there any problem in eating maybe a cup of egg whites scrambled every day for breakfast?  They have almost no calories, and protein which fills you up pretty well.  The only downside I am experiencing is the gas, haha, but its well worth it?

it's definitely worth it. they are very low in calories (17 cal/egg), and high in protein. If you feel satisfied, then continue having them for breakfast! yeah... they may give you gas (depends on the person), but i think it's worth it! haha

yup, you're absolutely correct! it's the egg without the yoke part. whether you eat the white part raw, cooked, or hard-broiled, it all refered to as 'egg whites'

how do you eat them? I'm just wondering for my own personal benefit. Laughing

do you buy the egg beaters stuff in the store and eat that?? I think I'm going to give the egg whites a try.

Hi!  We eat a looooot of egg whites at home, and while you can just seperate the yolks out, it's very time consuming. You can buy just pure, liquid egg whites at the grocery store.  I believe "Egg Beaters" has more stuff besides eggs to make it flavourful.

My husband and I will split a whole carton at breakfast, which has about 56 grams of protein in only 272 calories.  The protein is extremely high quality and 100% bioavailble, fat-free, cholesterol-free, and the broadest amino acid spectrum in any food besides meat. You can use them for cooking too (yummy meringues!).

A couple of drawbacks are the lack of flavour (let's face it, the yolk's where it's all at), odd colour (my son calls them 'fluff'), and the way it sticks to the pan.  We dress it up with salsa, low-fat cheese, hot sauce, veggies, or sometimes throw in a yolk or two.  We use Becel cooking spray which adds no calories.

Never heard about the 'gas effect', but that does make sense!  hee hee.. have to look out for that!

I eat egg whites, mixed with veggies, low-fat cheese, and/or ham every day - and I've lost over 50lbs!! So, no, there's NOTHING wrong with eating them everyday, and in fact, my nutritionist says that starting your day with protein (white omelet, yogurt, whey protein shake) is much better for you than starting with carbs!

Yummy eggs!
thanks for the idea.  I think when I'm over calories, but still hungry I will try  egg whites.  For my omeletts I use one egg and 2 whites and everyone likes them.

I never looked up calories and was figuring 1/2 of what an egg is, so, glad to know they are way less.

I just separate them in my fingers, quick and easy and my eggs are organic /cage free.  I think I'll boil some today and just eat the whites for snacks.............hmmm wonder if a dab of mustard would add some flavor.
