first post in this particular forum.... Innocent

i was just wondering ... that in my morning breakfast.. i usually eat boiled eggs with a cup of 1% fat milk tea.. what i did today was that i ate egg whites and saperated the yolks and fed them to my 18 months old son

once they were finished.. i started getting worried.. is it ok to feed 2 boiled egg yolks to an 18 months old baby? when adults r recommended to hv only 1 egg per day

am i too bad a mother...doing so to my baby,, just because i dont want to waste them?

and no you are not a bad mother, relax. a bad mother wouldnt even be concerned. Smile

Eat them.

Since when are adults only recommended to have 1 egg per day?

And I agree with ds1973 - eat the whole egg. It's good for you.

That's an old recommendation when egg yolks were considered to be a cause of high cholesterol in the diet. The science wasn't available yet that determined that egg yolks contributed to the good cholesterol reading.

I think is was late 70's or early 80's when it was recommended that adults not consume more than a few eggs per week.

i hv read it so many places...not to eat more than one full egg.

but i eat 3 whits so that i can somehow fullfill my protein requirements

i dont want  so many calories.. cant imagine to eat 3 eggs at the same time

I typically have over 24 eggs in a 7 day period.

It's all good!

Yeah, but I've also read that eating fat makes you fat, and that working a particular muscle will cause the fat over that muscle to go away. Edit: I forgot my favorite lie - Pilates will make you taller.

Just cause you've read it, doesn't mean it's true.

 This!

What you're reading or seeing is very old information. Let it go. Plus, there are only about 75 calories in an egg. Two whole eggs would be about 150 calories. That isn't going to blow your calories and you'll end up with more nutrition. The whites have the protein but the yolks provide choline and several other nutrients.

 Pilates makes you TALLER?!

I'm so going to start doing pilates now.  Because I've known for years that I'm not too fat.  I'm just too short.

You're not too short- you are vertically challenged.

Yeah no kidding, what a waste!  Eggs are a fabulous balance of healthy fats and protein.  With some whole wheat toast (and a smidge of butter) they are, in my humble opinion, the perfect breakfast.  One that I ate this morning, actually.  Helps to fuel my workout so I have more energy to work out harder.  Keeps me fuller in the morning, also, I don't have to fight cravings.

One large egg has 70 calories. 70 x 3 = a 210 calorie breakfast... Still on the low end. Eating more of your calories earlier in the day helps give you proper energy and keep you full.

If you plan on doing this again in the future which I would recommend because egg yolks have tons of nutrients we all need - Try and buy Omega-3 enriched eggs that way your son if getting even more benefit than simply from just eating egg yolks!

what abt they r high in cholestrol myth?????

Eggs contain cholesterol... so do shellfish for that matter.  High blood cholesterol is a factor in cardio-vascular disease so people at risk of heart-attacks were advised to avoid cholesterol-rich foods.

HOWEVER.... high blood cholesterol comes about through a combination of genetic predisposition, obesity, inactivity, smoking, alcohol consumption and excessive consumption of rich, fatty foods.   If someone adopts a healthy, calorie-controlled diet (including a few whole eggs and some shellfish), takes regular exercise, stops smoking, cuts back on the richy, fatty foods and alcohol.... and gets their weight down as a result.....   then they will bring their cholesterol levels down at the same time.

from what I understand, ingesting the cholesterol does NOT make your body grab it as such and put it in your bloodstream. It breaks it down like everything else and then uses or gets rid of it.

That was a poor explanation of what I read! Bottom line: It doesn't translate directly to blood cholesterol levels.
