What Do You Do With the Egg Yolks?
Just out of curiousity, when many of you make an omelette or scrambled eggs with just egg whites, what do you do with the egg yolks? Throw them away? It just seems like just a waste to throw away the yolk, but bad to eat them. Or do you just buy the egg whites already seperated from the yolk?
I dump them down the sink. Eggs are only like $1 a dozen...so its not really much of a waste.
I find that the eggbeaters dont even come close to real egg whites (they dont make as nice an omelette and dont work to whip up as well either).

I agree with loriklorik regarding eggbeaters.. I tend to buy 18 for like 1.18 or less... I also dump it in the sink or let my boyfriend have it in his breakfast.
You can make a rinse for your hair out of egg yolks to make it nice and shiny. That way they won't have to go to waste. Google it for the exact formula.
I can buy cartons of pure egg whites in grocery stores here (Ontario, Canada) - they're next to the Egg Beater-type products, but don't have anything else added. Very convenient.
I've done the yolk hair conditioner thing before, it's a little gross in the process, but does have nice results. If I didn't have a way to buy pure whites, I would probably throw out a lot of my yolks - yes, it feels wasteful, but part of losing weight is accepting that sometimes the food would be just as wasted if you ate it! (I'm still trying to learn this!)

I mix them in with my dog's food. Good for the hound and her coat.
I also just throw them out. When I make an omelet or boil eggs for a sandwich, I usually use 1 whole egg plus 1 egg white and throw the other yolk out or sometimes just 2 boiled egg whites chopped on a piece of whole wheat toast. I agree, I hate to be wasteful, but your options aren't many here. You can't really easily keep an open yolk fresh or safe to eat for very long unless you're doing something else with it right now. If you're watching your cholesterol in particular, not really a good idea to eat it, either. I can live with a waste of less than 10 cents per egg yolk once or twice a week in the interest of my (currently horrendous) cholesterol health. :-)
just paid $2.29 here, and 5 doz range $8 - $10 most times too.
but i put em in the garbage (poor garbage dude ~ eeeewwww ;) lol

Yeah, they recently went up to $1.38/doz here, 1.68 to 1.86 for 18. A month or so ago, they were $1.06 for a dozen large eggs. I suppose, along with the milk shortage, there is also now a chicken shortage. ;-)
i used to make egg white omlettes all the time, and just throw the yolk in the trash or down the sink. but then i found, contrary to popular belief, that all the nutrients in the egg are in the yolk. in fact, the white contains anti-nutrients, that deplete certain nurtients from your system. in my opinion, if your gonna eat an egg, might as well eat the extra calories and get the nutrients from it.
I am not going to eat a few bites of something only to have to turn around and work off the extra weight. I throw yolks away thereby saving myself a lot of needless work.
Yeah, unfortunately, along with the nutrients, the yolk also contains over 200 mg of cholesterol, and some of us just can't afford that on any kind of regular basis.
What if eggs cost $4 per dozen like they do where I live? Also, I hate egg whites so if I'm eating eggs, I'm eating the yolks. To me it's worth the calories for the flavor, but then I'm a flavor whore, which is where I got into trouble in the first place. If it doesn't taste good, why eat it?
A little off subject, I know!

i....... feed them to the chickens?
i also feed my chicken fat to the chickens.
(i don't mean to... i take a plate or a cool whip container of frozen egg whites when it gets full, i put it outside, meant for the cats, but one of our chickens always runs up from the other side of the farm and scarfs it down. she's not friends with the other chickens, so she comes to the porch a lot)
weird she hasn't died yet.
Personally, I like Eggbeaters.
microblast those yellow puppies and the dogs love em. Cooking decreases the chance of salmonella.
haha I save them and put them in my mom's fertilizer for the backyard along with the shells. She puts it in her garden, I guess its really good for plants or something.
fatdoc ~ wondered if they would be bad for the dogs? heart health wise....
The "just eggwhites" in the box have the same problem as eggbeaters....they just dont behave like real eggwhites from the shell (not in cookng or texture)
