If we give up meat and eggs, will we loose weight faster?
I can give up meat but eggs are like easy to cook and can make a quick meal. You think eating 1 or 2 eggs for a meal each day is a big no no?
I eat 4 to 5 egg whites boiled 3 times a week.
Ims till losing 4 pounds a week thats with excersise though.
Get egg beaters...eggs are one of the best foods you can eat! They are insanely good for you!!! Do not cut out eggs...in fact eat 3 - 4 eggs with low fat meat mixed in...this is a staple in my diet, it is a staple in any serious atheletes diet...Cut out sugars and fat from your diet, not a pure protein source!
you don't need to give up either, there are lean sources of meat available that won't impede upon your weight loss efforts WHATSOEVER..so giving up meat for that purpose is not really advisable. I say make better options and go for the leanest cuts, you will be just fine.
I love me some eggs as part of my healthy diet. Tonight's dinner for example. I took 2 sausage links (ground turkey ones) and sliced them into little pieces. Put them in a pan with a handfull of mushrooms, onions and broccoli. Once that was cooked I added one full egg and one egg white and scrambled it all up. I heated up a whole grain tortilla and added some green taco sauce. It was so good.
I say eat real eggs, not eggbeaters. Unprocessed foods are generally better for you.
You don't have to always eat lean meat: fattier cuts are excellent braised. All you need to do is watch the portion size - your body needs a certain amount of saturated and unsaturated fats, so don't fear the fat.
You could cut out meat and eggs and lose weight. Or you could cut them out and gain weight. It depends what else you are eating and your activity level. But if you do cut them out, make sure you are getting enough protein, iron, fat and B vitamins from other sources.
I agree with meryl on the real eggs. My tummy can't handle eggbeaters (not sure why, I think I'm allergic to something they put in there) so I mix one egg with a half cup of egg whites and add peppers/onions/whatever I feel like. Really tasty! :D
I love egg whites...pure protein. Just toss in microwave and add in spices...voila instant protein fix and low calories. I also indulge in plenty of chicken breast and fish. Beef is off my list...too many calories for me and for me personally, it stays in my system too long. Pork has too many cals for my liking as well.
It's a personal choice but there are good benefits to eggs and certain meats.
I don't think we need to "give up" anything to lose weight except overeating and under-moving. I do think if we want to be as healthy as possible it is a good idea to "give up" low nutrient manufactured food-like items (for me, this is Doritos Nacho-flavored tortilla strips--the list of ingredients is almost as long as the bag). I also think that to be as healthy as possible it is a good idea to "give up" the idea of "losing weight faster"--what's the hurry?
Meat and eggs can be a healthy part of a diet, unless you want to avoid them for religious/ethical/personal reasons. It can be challenging to have a balanced diet without them (not impossible, just challenging -- any vegans out there please don't flame me).
Egg Beaters really? seriously people.. those things are FAKE and full of unnessary additives... if you want eggs either get 100% pure egg whites, or just have the real deal... don't waste your money on proccessed garbage food
Eggs are NOT BAD... neither is meat, as long as you choose lean cuts, or just lean meats in general (ie: bison, turkey, chicken, fish)
why do you think that cutting out perfect, complete sources of protein will help you lose weight faster? what are you going to replace that protein with? extra carbs? sugar? fats?
keep the clean eating protein.. lose the packaged stuff
the key to weight loss is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE, something that you can stick to FOREVER... and I doubt that unless you are an educated and determined vegetarian or vegan, you're not going to be able to cut out meat forever
If you give up eating too many calories, you'll lose weight faster.
Eggs and lean meat can be a healthy part of any diet. At least they're real foods. I think it'd be better to eat two eggs and a small portion of lean meat for breakfast than cereal from a box.
I eat eggs whenever I can. Egg beaters are also a good choice if you are that concerned about eating eggs in general. Although, when I eat eggs I rarely eat the yolk. And i do not feel I am missing out.
I do not eat meat except for lunch or dinner so I would rather pair my eggs with toast and fruit then meat. However, if you are up for trying new things, MorningStar makes some morning "meat" products like bacon or sausage links. They are healthier and still have the protein as well.
Morningstar "sausage" ingredients:
Top round steak, ingredients = beef.
I'd take the steak, eggs, fruit and/or toast. Or go with eggs, fruit and toast. Nothing wrong with a big breakfast to replenish your body after a night of sleep and to keep you from snacking on the occasional sweets that a co-worker may bring in to work that day.
I don't really care what everyone says about using egg beaters. They are 99% egg whites with less than 1% preservatives and food coloring. I use them because when I used by buy regular eggs, my roommate would eat them, and not replace them. Buying EB's solved that problem.
Looks like the Morningstar "sausage" ingredients posted by ds1973 are more toxic than the egg beaters. I've learned to make my own sausage using ground chicken instead of pork. I even make chorizo using ground chicken. I'd much rather eat my home-made chicken sausage than the Morningstar version of anything.
Carmenox, you really should read the list of ingredients on the carton of Egg Beaters. I just looked at mine to make sure I wasn't blowing smoke up anyones back side.

Well if you are that uptight and have to be "all natural" every day of the year then dont eat morning star. It was a suggestion. But sometimes when you dont have time to cook they come in handy. And it wont kill you. Beef leads to other health problems as well. Everything in moderation
I'm a believer that if you're going for a lifestyle change, then don't worry about eating clean or all natural 100% of the time. Truthfully, it's not realistic. Yes, strive to eat more fresh, natural, healthy foods. But having a boca burger, a morningstar sausage patty, or a 1/2 cup of eggbeaters is not gonna kill ya. It's whatever you can see yourself living with long term.
Personally, I love boca burgers, eggbeaters, and those fat free soy "sausages". I eat them regularly because it's what I like and makes it easier to stick to a low fat diet. And I do plan on remaining low fat even after reaching my goals. I've never been one to only be able to have a little bit of the "real" stuff. I like large portion sizes. LOL It's just a matter of finding replacements you enjoy!
