Is eggs and toast better than cereal in the morning?
Asked by anonymous on Sep 11, 2008 in Nutrition

I am trying to find the most nutritious breakfast. I am an athlete and work out 3-4 days a week. I either eat 2 eggs sunny side up with 2 pieces of whole wheat toast or Kashi Go Lean cereal with skim milk. The cereal seems to be the better option but I find that the eggs and toast keeps me fuller for longer. Which one is better to eat for breakfast?

Answer

Eggs and toast will keep you full longer and provide more protein than Kashi.  Kashi is fine, but you'll probably need a snack in a few hours.  For years, eggs were thought to raise blood cholesterol but newer research showed that is not the case.   A recent study showed that, compared to a bagel, participants on a calorie-restricted diet lost more weight on an equal-calorie breakfast of eggs and toast. Just keep the saturated fat from butter low by cooking your eggs in a non-stick skillet or water and by choosing a healthy butter substitute
