Just 'double it up' - you'll be safe that way.  Diane
It kinda makes me think, since almost all the eggs have two yolk...do you think it's the hormones or the bad stuff the chicken eats that causes that????

:s

think about all the cholesterol you are eating!!! TWO EGG YOLKS! WOW!

It's not only jumbo eggs. I buy large eggs and occasionally come across a double yolked egg. It's perfectly safe.

What I would do is multiply the calories by 1.5, since I find the double yolk is usually connected down the middle, not 2 completely separate yolks.

I eat organic, cage free eggs and often ahve double yolks and think it could just be the chickens.  Always surprises me when it happens.  Had one dz eggs recently and half were double.
Okay, so I know this will probably make me sound stupid but since I am just starting out with all of this healthy stuff trying to be more healthy, are eggs not very healthy, the other day I ate like 6 hard boiled eggs throughout the day thinking that it was better for me but am I wrong in this?
hardboiled is the healthiest way to eat them, unless you have some kind of cholesterol problem I'd say eating eggs is fantastic it the perfect food,

I generally try to limit it to 3 whole eggs a day, more so I don't get sick of them than for any other reason.

The food log has a search function and egg yolks are listed there. If you don't have any problems with high cholesterol and are not currently on a diet trying to lose weight then egg yolks within a whole egg are fine to eat. A complete egg is very nutrtious and can defintely be part of a healthy diet. BUT... The cholesterol within an egg doesn't affect our blood levels of cholesterol but the saturated fats within the egg yolk do. 2 egg yolks in one egg would be doubling the saturated fat which may present a problem. The arachidonic acid content in egg yolks puts our fatty acid balance out of wack in the wrong direction for most people. In the usual diet of developed countries we eat way too much omega 6 versus omega 3 fatty acids, and this is part of the cause of many of the health concerns we are facing such as heart disease among others. Eating egg whites without the yolk is very healthy without the damaging effects of the yolk for most people. If you really don't want to eat eggs without the yolk then have one yolk with 3 egg whites to adjust the balance in your favour.

I hope this helps
I usually toss the yolks. Most of the good stuff (PROTEIN!) is in the whites. Or sometimes I do a 3 whites with 1 yolk ratio.

Actually half the protein is in the yolk. The yolk also has all the vitamins and minerals while the whites have none.

Chicken twins!
My parents have pet chickens, they get to run around eat bugs and grass and have never been given hormones. Double yokes crop up fairly often with robust hens on or over their second laying season. Older hens lay eggs less often but the eggs are normally larger. The yolks always appeared to be about half the size of a normal yoke, but if you really want to get picky you could separate the yolks and weigh them and compare to the weight of a single yoke.

I hear of lots of people that only eat the whites of eggs....but I can't bring myself to do that!  I feel like I'm wasting half of my money by just tossing out half of the egg.  Does anyone else feel that way, or am I just weird?
I’m poor and can’t see the point in tossing half an egg either. Besides I need the protein.
Hi Bernasha... One way of looking at it is as follows. Do you eat the corn husks when you eat corn ;)  Do you eat the orange peel on an orange ;). If you only eat the egg whites you are choosing to eat the part that you wish to eat for whatever your personal reasons are. You can also buy just egg whites in most grocery stores, no waste!
Those are lucky! My mother told me once that if you get a double yolk, you can make a wish.
Just make some belated ones!
