Eliminating Certain Foods

Quote  |  Reply

What foods, if any, have you completely eliminated from your diet?  What foods do you limit to a specific amount (i.e., less than X grams/day)?  Just curious :)!

I've completely eliminated the homemade oil-popped popcorn I used to eat every day and replaced it with airpopped sprayed with a popcorn spray. This has cut out a ton of calories & fat! I've also made a lot of substitutions that have helped me as well.

why do you want to eliminate some food? is it for health reason or diet reason?

try to stay away from anything white . like white sugar, white flour, and white bread.

I was just curious to see what worked for other people, to see if I could find something that might help me too.  The white thing is a good idea; I've heard that a lot.

Oh, but does that mean you stay away from things that were made with those items?  Like, should I avoid cookies that were made with white sugar and white flour (I mean, I know I shouldn't be eating cookies all the time anyway :P).

it's been only 2 wks but I have eliminated my flavored coffee mate creamer in my morning coffee...It was like a ritual... I now use skim milk and a tsp of Agave nector organic... hoping this helps me, I realized my sugar content was through the roof, and I've been doing this for over 3years! so it's a hard habit to break... hopefully some pounds will shed and I will notice the difference :)

That would be meat.

I did the same thing - the coffeemate creamer, I mean. I was drinking about 100 calories/day of the stuff! Switched to a cafe au lait (half coffee, half steamed skim milk) and am now getting my healthy dairy with less calories.

Sodas and french fries.  Sodas are pretty much gone for good and replaced with tons of water.  French fries are a treat every 3 or 4 weeks.

I haven't eliminated anything from my diet outright. But I definitely stay away from muffins - used to have one a week or so, now I haven't had one in months.....

I'm attempting to eliminate all diet soda (I just don't trust what is in the stuff..!) and just allow myself to have a regular soda every couple of weeks instead..

I second what peachysam said. Muffins are evil. They go right to the hips. :) this is from experience.

also, I don't want you to really restrict hard.just step by step.

there is nothing wrong with muffins if you make them yourselves.  i made a great muffin last week and it was only 175 calories.  very healthy too if i may say so.  the only fat came from the 1 whole egg and the liquid was nonfat yogurt and 3 bananas.  yumm...gonna make some more tomorrow for when my parents get here.

and i have not eliminated anything from my diet just cut back on the unhealthy ones.  sometimes have to have my ice cream.

Well meat obviously since I've been a vegetarian for 5 years lol. Also I haven't eaten fried food in a very, very long time. It doesn'tt even look or sound good to me any more. I stopped eating it because I noticed it was making my skin break out :-(. Also I haven't drank a non diet soda in I'd say 2, 2.5 years. Instead of cutting things out, I have tried to use healthy substitutes lol. It works I think :-)

Totally agree.  I love homemade muffins and they're just about the only way I can get enough fat into my diet (so I don't use low-fat substitutions and they still come in at 100-170 calories each).  Now, store-bought muffins are another issue entirely - but they're basically cakes anyway.

I haven't really cut anything completely out... but I have limited certain things.  I was one of those crazy people who actually drank half my calories.  Like a gallon of iced tea day.... ((I was shocked when I started counting and noticed that)))  SO I limit.

No more then two glasses of iced tea a day (( I'll be limiting that more as I quite smoking))

I'm not suppose to drink soda unless I'm in a sit down meal out.  (( which really doesn't happen much any more, eating out has lost it's appeal)) I've been breaking this one lately.

I buy whole grain bread, and whole grain pastas now.  So I guess I limit white flour.. and don't eat a whole lot of pasta dishes anymore anyway.

I also try for more whole foods... less processed pre packaged foods.  It's sort of 50/50 at the moment.  But it's a step by step sort of thing.

I don't really forbid anything... though I have less of a taste for fried food now.  It just isn't very appetizing any more.

I had to really think about this because it was such a gradual process...

So now that I think about it;

Pop. diet or regular. At one point I drank a can of regular pop every day. Now, its been over a year since I've had one.

Sugar cereals. Mostly oatmeal and eggs for breakfast now.

Fried foods. Often use to eat Extra Crispy chicken or Fish and Chips.

Italian Subs.

Fast food. I think I've only had it twice in a year...and ordered low cal garden burgers with no sauce.

Salted nuts. Now strictly unsalted, which I have at least a serving of daily for the healthy fats.

Cinnamon Bears. A month ago I gave them another shot (after over a year of abandonment) and demolished the package. I completely lose control for those little buggers and can't buy them.

I'm not opposed to any of these and would probably eat/drink them if they were my only options. But honestly, this stuff (with the exception of the cinnamon bears) just doesn't sound good to me anymore.

That's the problem and why I have to stay away from them, cause I love the sugary store-bought ones :P

Anything fried. I used to eat tons of fried stuff but now...nahh.

Udon noodles, and sushi cause i thought they were fairly low calorie like soba, but turns out they're not and the discovery gave me such a shock i've never wandered near them since.

Also, soda. But that's not too hard cause i've never been into them in the first place.

And peanut butter cause oh gosh. i. can't. stop. and it leads to binges. I looove nuts however, so now i limit myself to nut bars. i wear braces, and it take me forever to gnaw through one nut bar and i'm so knackered by the end of it i feel satisfied.

I haven't completley eliminated anything. There are foods I don't eat (at least, not more than say, once a year), but idk, if I ever tried to totally cut one food out, it would wind up with my over-doing it and bingeing on the food. Instead, I tried to find healthy alternatives to old favourites,
but if I really, really want something, I have it in a moderated way.

I haven't totally eliminated but eat in great moderation white/bleached grains, sodas, sugar, fried foods and salt.

If I go out and have a pizza for a cheat meal then it's most likely a white/bleached grain, I try not to do that very often, once a month maybe.

I'll have a soda maybe once every 2 weeks.

Sugar from natural sources throughout the day. Although I do indulge in a small treat each day that has sugar (IF I've worked out!), but I don't go binging on the stuff.

Fried foods don't taste very good anymore, I have to peel off the skin on chicken that's been fried and it still tastes too greasy.

I use salt only on brown rice, and try not to shake it till it's half gone lol Tongue out

Soda is the only thing I have totally eliminated.  I try not to eat fries, sometime sweet potato fries if I must.  Candy is something I have not eaten, but will when I have the urge.

I gave up red meat about 1-2 months before I started CC, did not eat red meat for 12yrs previously.

Pizza is a limited treat, but I will not give it up...love it!

I've eliminated gluten for my diet, and I've become vegan out of belief. I am thinking of eliminating sweets, but this may be a bit too much for me. Dark chocolate and molasses never killed anyone, right? ;)
