What miles per hour is considered light, moderate, and vigerous according to calorie count?

Everyone will be different.  The level of intensity is "your rate of perceived exertion" or heart rate vs what another person might experience at that same rate.

good question! I would like to know this too, ready for when I get an elliptical.

If you go to this website: http://www.teenbodybuilding.com/justin6.htm You can calculate your maximum heart rate... its about HIIT but the tool is good so you know what range you are in intensity wise.

For me I have based it on the estimated calories the machine says I burn compared to what Calorie Count says I burn for each. I have found light to be anything from 6.5 and below, moderate 6.6 to 8.8 and vigourious from 8.9 and above. Everyone will be different but that works for me.

high intensity (vigorous) = 80% of max.

moderate = 70% of max

light = 60% of max

The simplest way to get your maximum HR is to subtract your age from 220.

Everyone is right about the belly fat. You have to do cardio to burn fat all over your body - you can't spot reduce the belly fat. Also, MPH is not necessarily comparable between different ellipticals; in fact, some read in RPMs instead. It's best to go by your heart rate. Oh, and one more thing. I've found that the machines tend to overestimate calories by anywhere from 10-30%.
