elliptical machine recommendations

Quote  |  Reply

Im  looking into buying an elliptical machine in the $700-1000 range, Ive looked at some of the reviews and its 50/50 some people like the the machine they bought and others have horror stories, and  I think perhaps I should invest in the $2,000 range.  Any recommendations on a great machine?!

There is one machine that is suppose to be an elliptical treadmill and StairMaster in one...can't remember who makes it, but looks like a great product. ....look it up.

It depends on how much you plan on using it and if anyone else will be using it as well.  I bought a Horizon elliptical for about 800.  And I guess that's a middle of the road machine, so I found out later...

I think I just got a bad machine because the thing broke about 3 times.  In all fairness they did come out and fix it both times without giving me grief.  Their customer service is pretty good so I can't say horrible things about them.  But the elliptical I bought I really do like it.  It has a stacked flywheel which means it's more compact and doesn't take up as much room.  And it's VERY quiet.  But you have to be ok with the fact that regular maintenance to the machine is necessary.  Ellipticals aren't complicated machines so if you at least buy one in the 700 dollar range, it doesn't have that many parts that'll break, in comparison to a treadmill for example.

If I could do it over again, I would have bought a more expensive machine.  But at the time, I thought I was.  There's only two of us that use the machine, and it works well for our purposes.

Hmm, my post sounds like I can't make up my mind :P  I hope my back and forth opinion helped.

I bought a NordicTrak elliptical from Sears for under 1G....can't remember the exact price. Whatever you buy, make sure that it has a push-button incline and resistance. You don't want to climb off the machine and adjust it every time.

Mine also has the ordinary training programs that you might expect. Also, my dad and I were able to put it together but the flywheel part is really heavy so keep that in mind if you have to put it together yourself. You might want to have them set it up for you. I've taken it apart one time because I got a lot of dog hair on the arms of the machine and the grease got all gunked up. I cleaned it and re-greased and it's good as new.

The only thing missing....a cup holder.

I just got a New Balance 8000 Elliptical trainer for Christmas and i love it! The motion is very fluid, the machine is very sturdy, and it has several different personal trainer programs on it as well as a heart monitor. I've worked out on a lot of the ellipticals at the gym and this is a good version to have at home. It's not too large but it works very well so far. My husband paid $600-$700 for it at dicks sporting goods online.
