Who Else Can't Eat In The Morning?

Quote  |  Reply

I never feel hungry in the morning and I have to wait 2 or 3 hours at least after I've got up to eat anything.

Eating first thing after I've got up makes me feel sick.

i usually eat my oatmeal about 3 hours after i get up. i dont know how people can get up and just start eating. i have to soak up coffee for at least an hour or two before i even think about eating.

I used to be this way, but found that if I have a big glass of water first thing, and do my calisthenics, shower (about a half hour) I am actually hungry for breakfast.  I think it has something to do with the fact that my dinners are smaller than they used to be.

You know, the classic farm family got up in the dark to do chores, then came in to a big breakfast before school/rest of working day.  So, why not get your day started, then take a break and eat your breakfast when you are ready to?

Me. I get up at 10am on most days cause that is how long my son sleeps. I don't get hungry until like... 1:00pm when I eat lunch. I still eat a yougrt or something small when I wake up though.

I wake up at 3:45 am everyday, to start eating THAT early would kill my intake for sure.  I would probably eat 3,000 calories a day EASY (i usually do when I eat that early).  I wait until 9 to eat my breakfast.  That puts me at about 5 hours after waking up to eat my first meal.

wow, I cannot relate at all.  I usually wake up to my stomach grumbling and it takes all my willpower to shower before I eat!!

Yeah, I wake up hungry and can't wait to get stuck into breakfast. I tend not to be a night-eater though; I'm usually pretty full after dinner and will only eat a piece of fruit in the evening.

Have you tried eating less at night? It would probably make you hungrier the next morning, and if you can get into a pattern where you eat breakfast, you might have more energy to face the day.

I thought I was the only one. I swear, I never understood why people are so crazy about breakfast. It usually takes me hours to feel hungry. It's not only that I don't feel hungry, I also just don't "feel like it" I can't get myself to go and eat it's just a... meh I'll eat lunch.

Probably not healthy, but I can't bring myself to eat breakfast until I'm up and moving for a few hours.

I used to not be hungry when I woke up for about two hours and my first meal was often around 11am or Noon.  I worked hard to change it, because a friend convinced me that people with higher metabolisms are the people who eat a healthy breakfast, and that skipping breakfast will slow me down and have me burning less calories.

So I promised myself that I would excerise for at least 30 minutes every morning, right after I got up. In actuality this only happens about 3 times a week.  I go for a bike ride or a jog.  I come back ravenous.  Now I'm usually hungry within 15-30 minutes of waking up.

I don't know if it actually does increase my metabolism or not, but I am feeling a lot better about myself, happier, and much more energetic.  I'm needing less sleep too.

I used to be one of those people who never ate until the end of the day.  All that changed two years ago when I began my journey for a healthier life.  It took a great deal of convincing on the part of a friend to show me the benefits of breakfast.

Today, two years later, I wouldnt dream of not eating breakfast.  I grab my coffee and head for the egg whites or oatmeal or cottage cheese to start up my metabolism for the day.  Im doing something good for the body and I find if I eat every 2-3 hrs, Im never ravenous...just right.

Man, this so sounds like me. BUT my problem is I don't feel any hunger pangs til around 4:30pm or 5pm, right when I am headed to work. I will eat dinner at work around 5:30pm to pm and then at about midnight I am hungry again. I get off work around 12:30am - 1am or 2:30am to 3 am, and when I get home I have a light lunch-type snack and go to bed between 4am and 5 am, only to turn around and start right back over again about 10:30 am in the morning. On my days off my schedule is still the same even if I get up a little earlier then usual. I have noticed if I eat anything even a light something before 10 am I am sluggish and tired the rest of the day and extremely sick to my stomach. I have yet to say anything to a Doc. although I know I should.

I'm usually not hungry until 1pm, so I often just wait another hour and have a big lunch...

Before the summer holidays, I'd normally get up around 4am every morning and eat something at school around 11am - then eat lunch around 3pm

I dunno. If it was so healthy to eat when you've just got up wouldn't it make you feel better as opposed to the opposite?

I have much more energy all morning if I don't eat anything and eating breakfast makes me feel really groggy and lethargic, which is surely unhealthy. Maybe breakfast being good for you is a myth thats been marketed by cereal companies.

We all know exercise is good for you but that can also make you feel very tired if you're not in the habit! I think you need to work on forming healthy breakfast-eating as a habit, before it will start to make you feel really good.

Studies have shown that breakfast eaters eat fewer overall calories in a day; are more successful at keeping weight off, have more energy and are less irritable. Eating breakfast also kick-starts your metabolism for the day. Not to mention that breakfast can easily be the healthiest meal of the day; dairy, fruit, eggs and grains are the main components of many people's breakfasts.

yea ive never been a breakfast eater, if it were up to me breakfast would be at 1pm...my old eating habits is whats kept me overweight so tryin to break that so now i eat fruit or yogurt even oatmeal, i force myself and its proving to work with my body well!

I don't really like doing the whole breakfast thing either....and I'm not hungry when I wake up.....but I have a (skinny!) friend who harps on me all the time, "if you eat a big breakfast you kickstart your metabolism"....

I'm trying! But I am right there with ya...gimme lunch! Laughing

I used to not be a breakfast eater.  But when I started my weight loss journey, I found out that when you eat breakfast, it gets your metabolism going (which is a very good thing for weight loss).  Hence the name breakfast (break the fast).  So I started forcing myself to eat just a bit.  Even if it was just a bite or two of oatmeal.  Pretty soon it got easier and I was able to finish a whole packet of oatmeal or a whole apple or a couple of eggs without feeling "icky" like I used to.

Now, it's just second nature.  And I find that when I eat a healthy breakfast as opposed to a sugary worthless one, the rest of my eating for that day seems to just kind of fall into place.

I'm actually kind of surprised at the number of people here who are trying to lose weight but still refuse to eat breakfast.  Sleeping 8 hours a night with no food, and then waking up at 7:00am and not eating until lunch gives you about 13 hours of not eating.  And 5 of those hours are waking hours that you are NOT utilizing your metabolism.  That's not exactly optimal for weight loss.

Same here! :D I'm very hungry for breakfast and it's actually my most calorie-rich meal of the day. currently I'm eating about 500~800 cal for breakfast. Sounds like a lot, I know. but it makes me feel quite sated (?) throughout the day and I can easily manage with smaller lunches, snacks and dinners.

From prepubescence I did not eat until 3 to 5 hours after waking up.  And I was good with that right up to the last 6 months.  But even though my eating habits didn't not change much, my body did.  What works for the 20 year old, does not work for the 40 year old.

I have to take meds on an empty stomache, so I do that as soon as I wake up.  By the time I shower, dress, put on a face and get my lunch ready, it's been and hour and I can eat a 200-300 calorie breakfast.

Razur Rose - if you keep your breakfast down to 200-300 calories and include a whole grain and a protien, you should not feel groggy at all.   Standard breakfast for me is a boiled egg, 1/2 cup of All Bran mixed with some berries and 1/4 cup yogurt.  Under 300, calories, tasty and energizing.

Even if breakfast does speed up your metabolism how much by?

If you eat 300 or 400 calories a day for breakfast is it going to speed up your metabolism enough so that you burn off 300 or 400 extra calories a day. I doubt it.

I second Peaches!  I never ate breakfast (even though being advised by doctors and nutrionists to do so for years) and would just have lunch at 11:30 but since I've been eating healthier I now do eat breakfast because I find that I'm not eating as big of meals/snacks in the evenings like I did so I actually do feel hungry once I get mobile in the morning.
