who else "feels hungrier" at nite, than during the day?

Quote  |  Reply
here's another crazy one from me....i do my excercising in the a.m. and eat every 3-4 hours and i do not get any of those "urges" during the day..from 6a.m. thru 4p.m.  HOWEVER....NO SOONER THAN DINNER IS DONE AT 6P.M. THAT I LOOK FOR SOMETHING ELSE TO EAT AND THIS CONTINUES THRU THE NITE..sometimes i beat it by drinking water but that only makes me have to get up several times during the nite ..lol.......and its not like i'll eat junk food but i'll just keep eating or ill keep thinking of eating.....this never happens during the day...only at nite.......it drives me nuts....i often believe its just boredom getting the best of me...but even if it is, what am i supposed to do.go ride the bike for another 2 hours.i mean, thats ridiculous too....i've already been told that i'm excercising too much during the day.....geez....i guess this sounds stupid  but i figured it was worth a shot by putting it out there...thanks

If you've just eaten it's definitely not hunger. Eating at night is a habit and like any other habit it took you years to create so it won't magically disappear.

The good news is that it takes 21 days to create a new habit. So maybe take a baby step and only have one snack at night, try that for 21 days. Eventually you can cut back to no snacking.

I personally believe that TV encourages snacking because you are doing nothing but just staring.

If you live alone like I do one thing you could do is get rid of all your snack food. I have none of it in the house other than a hot air popcorn popper (which I often forget about). I can't snack because I have nothing but food that needs to be made or I have to go outside in the cold to get it. For me it works, but I live alone so it may not work for you.

Oh, you are not alone.
I used to be like this too... was very used to having a beer and some munchies at night.  It was more behavioral than anything else.

You could incorporate a snack so that you have something to eat at 8:30pm or so.  Then you have something to look forward to after dinner, and all you have to do is wait until snack time.  This worked really well for me.
Try to eat a good breakfast and make lunch your biggest meal. Keep the salads for  dinner and try to get into the habit. If you get really hungry try some carrots.
*raises hand* yes i do to lol

I get this BAD. I'm an illustrator, and I work on my art at night, when I am most productive (for me). I actually read somewhere that you don't gain any extra weight from eating at night, but people just tend to OVEReat at night.

I just drink plain tea, water, and eat veggies. I can't help eating at night because thats when I'm active, but I can make the right choices.

I also read that after you eat dinner, wait an hour then have dessert, even if you are dieting. Eating a dessert helps the body feel satisfied. And I don't mean reach for the double fudge chocolate cake! (Although sometimes maybe, haha). Have a pudding cup or chocolate dipped fruit, maybe even sherbet.

I'm the same way. I find my head in the fridge every twenty minutes if I don't pay attention to what I'm doing. I have found that drinking hot herbal tea with honey takes my mind off food until I go to bed.
