Who else feels totally discouraged by the goal setter thumb??

Quote  |  Reply

I have not even been on here a week I was put on a 1200 calorie diet by my docto even though cc said I should be doing 1800. I have a very over weight husband who does not want to change and two daughters age 5 and 6 and I think I am doing good staying under my 1200 calories and excercising, and that plus my thyroid medicine that the doc recently prescribed I have lost 8 pounds, but the goal says I can't reach my weight by oct 2010 now it says it will be July 2011 and I have a thumbs down. It really makes me a little discouraged!!! I think I am doing good, but then that little thumb makes me sad, I'm like why??? Any help or advice?

Don't let the thumb get you down!  If you believe you are progressing, then you should feel encouraged!  You have been taking the right steps (seeing a doc and keeping your 1200 calorie diet).  Just remember that the goals set by the site (ie- OCT 2010/JUL 2011) are only estimates.  You may even reach your goals before then!  Weight-loss takes time and, if it is done correctly, you will be much healthier/better in the long run.  It's great to hear that you've already lost 8 pounds!  Keep it up!

yes... I hate that $#@ thumb...

don't pay attention to it, mine's totally crazy hahaha My "goal date" is October 15th, and even when it says "Your goal weight should be achieved by January 2010" the thumb's up hahaha

ignore it (:

Some people said that it may think  I am losing weight to quickly, but I think I have lost more because of my thyroid meds, and so it doesn't show that. Thanks so much for your responses! Its just when you feel you have done good for the day excercising and managing your calories and the evil thumb says your are not doing good, or says you won't reach your goal it is very annoying!

I don't get it... well within calories, A+ grade, did exercise today, and am 12 lbs down with 22 to go. why do I get a thumbs down?  I agree, this is stupid.

I think the thumb is funny. I got a thumbs down when I was maintaining last summer because I went up a couple pounds...and I laughed. It's just a tool to keep you in check. But if it bums ya out or discourages you, disregard it. Same with the "grading scale" on food. Just a tool, not a rule.

I just ignore it now.

the thumb is a moron.  i never got a thumbs-down; i got continual, cheerful thumbs-up even when i gained, even when i got stuck in the low 140s (with a goal of 135) for over a year.  he just kept moving my "expected goal date" back.

then, when i suddenly dropped below my goal weight, it took him three days to notice.  there wasn't even a stupid fireworks display like you get in solitaire.

pay no attention.  you'll get no satisfaction from the thumb.

(there should be a fireworks display.  and a parade.)

^^ What she said.

Also, I might be wrong, but I don't remember people complaining about the thumb until the whole mess with the burn meter happened... I wonder if that has something to do with it? Not sure what, tho - mine, as pg said, continues to give me a "cheerful" thumbs up, no matter what weight I log (I've thrown in a few doozies, just to see what would happen - nada).

The goal setter thumb adjusts everytime you put in a new weight. I updated my weight after I lost 5lbs and it moved my date up. so just use it as a guideline... nothing can be perfect.

I just ignore it. Today, I get on and it says that my goal should be reached Dec 18, 2009, and I log in that I've lost a lb and it moves my date up to Dec 20, 2009. How can it take 2 days longer to lose a lb less?

Dont be sad.

When i first started it said i couldnt reach my goal untill febuary.

Its been a few months and now it says like sept of this year it could be reached.

I usualy lose 2 to 5 pounds a week some times more if i worked out every day of the week.

I just logged a higher weight than my previous, and got my date moved a week closer. what?!

I think this just goes to show it's not to be taken very seriously.

pgeorgian, someone should suggest this in the cc forum-- I want to have a tacky fireworks display when we reach our goal weight!

::jumps on the fireworks campaign and waves flag::

I just recently joined also, not even on it 1 week.  The Thumb was ok until I updated my weight, which I had lost weight since my original entry.  My actual weight loss line is below the trend line they set, and now the thumb goes down and says it will be sometime next year...  I think the thumb needs a brain or some good explaination if there are good reasons.

Today my thumb told me I was expected to reach my goal May 29, 2009. That is today...and I'm a pound over my goal.

Screw the thumb.  Mine does whatever it feels like doing...I look at it and laugh....

Yes...I agree we should have fireworks

A nice hi-5 would be awesome
