Who else hates Thanksgiving food?
I've never been a fan of stuffing, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, that cranberry crap, green bean casserol aka vomit in a dish, pumpkin pie?! Ew.
Anyone else just dislike the holiday all together because of the traditional food you have to eat at your spouses or families houses? I feel so bad passing up something people look SO forward to every year.
Why not change it to what you like!!
No one says you have to have those foods on thanksgiving.
Try a leg of lamb roast, or just the trukey breast alone. Do roast potatoes and make a nice salad with some special lettuces. We make sweet peas sauteed with onion, mushrooms, garlic and some diced bacon. That has always been part of my thanksgiving dinner
Start your own tradition for you

I'm sorry, but whoever thought that marshmallows on yams was a good idea should have been drug out into the street and shot.
Sweet potatoes, brown sugar, cinnamon, butter...and perhaps a couple of other spices...now that's Heaven.
This is exactly how I make them, sometimes with a bit of lemon juice for bite.
UGH, Thanksgiving. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for giving thanks, but I dread this holiday all year. Plain white turkey I'm fine with, but otherwise I don't really like the food. This past Thansgiving (I live in Canada, so it's already passed) I stayed in and made curry and watched the Discovery Channel.
'Twas a good day! XD

I like all of those things BUT I'm not a fan of turkey. Which of course is viewed as central to Thanksgiving. (Unless you go to a vegetarian's house)
I have had great success with turkey by brining it. The meat is transformed into juicy deliciousness. :)
My mother brined her turkey last year. Turned out wonderfully.
Stuffing is awesome.
However, my family has a tradition of putting some rutabaga on the table. It just sits there. My father may take a bit of it.
I moved away from home 5 years ago. When I went back to visit for the first time (after a year away), my requested meal was turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing (aka stuffing) and gravy! haha. I cannot relate to not liking these things! Except pumpkin pie... never eat this growing up so now it's not my top choice of pie.
I hate holiday food with a passion. I don't like the turkey (though I'm fine with other turkey things, like deli meat and such), I hate stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberries (I like REAL ones, but not that canned crap), casserols. Ew.
Thanksgiving for me ends up being either pizza or Mexican food day, same with Christmas. Mmm. And if I go somewhere where they don't have that, I just don't eat. I won't do it.

I love rutabaga! It's delicious. Eat your rutabaga young man.
not all dressings are created the same.
dont' judge them all by one person's rendition of them.

^ this!
The "dressing" that is always at gatherings with my hubby's side of the family is essentially seasoned, soggy bread. Everyone in his family eats it, if for no other reason, because that's how his grandmother always made it. I'd say the taste is like paste, but I think Elmer's would be an improvement.
But my mom makes an apple-sausage-sage dressing that's so good it might as well be the main course.

I am, in fact, a freak. But that status has nothing to do with pie or rutabaga.

we don't have it at our family gatherings, but I've had it at potlucks.
(we just have greens and green beans with bacon.. and ZOMG whiteacre peas!)
its green beans + cream of mushroom soup + somthing? + durkees fried onions on top.
Its pretty good.
I do wish my family would let me mess with the meal a little more. I'd love to do a really exotic turkey rub (something like chili and brown sugar) and do something more exotic with the stuffing. I'd also like to try and make the green bean casserole (which, by the way, is green beans, cream of mushroom or onion soup, milk, and Durkee's fried onions) using real cream, sauteed onions, maybe some parm cheese, etc. instead of all that canned crap.
I've always wanted to try cornbread and oyster stuffing, with a cajun rub on the turkey. :)
